Not receiving text messages

I got an iphone 5c a couple of weeks ago - it's been great until today when I've stopped receiving texts.

There are quite a lot of suggested solutions online and I think I've tried most of them (turning off 4g, imessage, resetting network). The only thing i have left to do is restore it which I'd rather not have to resort to. Anyone got any ideas?

I seem to be able to send them but don't get the replies which is really frustrating.

What happens when you try and send a message to your own number? Do you get any error message at all? (both on regular text message and iMessage).

It's also worth narrowing down if the texts affected are coming from one number or multiple numbers / network providers. Sometimes there might be an issue with the senders' phone. Confirming it's happening with multiple texts from different people will give the team on here some extra information to work with.

Finally, it's also worth checking out the network status checker to see if there are any problems in your area.

I sent myself an imessage and normal sms - both of them delivered but I didn't receive them.

I'm actually in France at the moment - have been for the last week and a half and haven't had any problems so I don't think it's that, and two separate people have apparently sent me texts which I haven't received so I'm fairly sure it's my phone.

Performing a manual roam can help rule out a fault on the French connection you're using. You can find out how to do a manual roam here. 

Connecting to iTunes will also help if you need to update your software.
