Obtaining A Vodafone Sim For My Dongle When In Australia

svgittins
Not applicable
I going to be in Australia for several weeks and would like to use my UK K3520 dongle while there. However I do not want to:
- pay the very high international rates incurred if I use my UK account.
- purchase an Australian Vodafone prepaid Vodafone dongle (rather pricey at AUD99 for 1 GB)

I've tried sending an email message to Vodafone Australia but they've not replied and anyhow warn you that you need an Australian account number to get a response.

So I'd like to know what I can do to use an Australian Vodafone SIM - do I need to get my modem unlocked even if I use a Vodafone SIM card? If so, what is the procedure? Also do I buy just a regular phone SIM or can I get one appropriate for broadband use? If the former will it just work with my UK software?

thanks
Simon

Hi svgittins and welcome to the eForum

Congrats on going to Australia :) I want to live there!

You will need to get your modem unlocked to do this. To find out how, just check out our NUC thread - NUC Then you'll just need to purchase your SIM from Australia when you get there. You'll need to check with them on what is the best type of SIM to use as it depends on how they have theirs set up.

You'll then just need the APN details for that SIM to put into the Vodafone Mobile Connect to allow you connectivity which again, Vodafone Aus will be able to give you.

Hope you enjoy Australia and please let us know if you have any more questions, we'll be happy to help :)

Thanks

Wayne
