Hi, I have just bought PAYG dongle and am running Windows XP with SP3. I can receive e-mails using Outlook Express but can't send them. I get a message time-out.pop.freeserve.net.server smtp.freeserve.net.Protocol SMTP.Port25.Secure(SSL).No Error Number 0800CCC19. Any ideas please? Goose

goosie..Error Number 0x800CCC19 is a timeout, which can be caused by many things. Most common appears to be interference by your anti-virus program. Also try amending the smtp ...use send.vodafone.net or smtp.vodafone.net OR delete the a/c details and reinsert with your smtp and if it fails use the VF ones.....but always turn off your AV program and any phishing filters whilst doing the testing. Easy or what!!

me again; sorry misread the post; ignore the smtp bit ; it's probably the AV issue so turn it off and retry.

Hi Goosie,

Unfortunately most Internet Service Providers (including FreeServe) will block you from sending emails using their SMTP server, if you're not connecting from their own Internet connection (for example, if you were connected via your Freeserve connection, it would work fine, but not from Vodafone or anyone else).

To overcome this issue, it is possible to use our own SMTP server, which is "send.vodafone.net" with no authentication.

Having said that, we are experiencing some issues with our SMTP service at present, so you may find emails can be delayed almost 24 hours. We would recommend signing up for a third-party independant email provider, such as GMail, and using their SMTP server as a workaround to this issue in the meantime :)

We're always looking for feedback on how we're handling queries for customers, so if you want to leave any on how I've handled your query today, then if you want, you can go here and complete the quick form. Any feedback is appreciated and helps to ensure that we're offering the best service we can for our customers.

Let me know if you need any further help.

Jon thanks for the advice. Have opened a Gmail account and it seems to work at present. Cheers.
Now I have just got to try to lift the content block and all will be well.
