In short read the many topics on this very subject here at which point you'll realise that Vodafone have totally changed their unique offering. At that point you'll realise you'll be better off elsewhere and demand a refund of your unused credit - which will take perserverence to obtain.
Try the main complaint topic here for starters:

I rang up on the main Vodafone Newbury number (*) then asked to submit a formal complaint pointing out the service was no longer suitable for my needs. I then pointed out the credit in my account and was offered a refund - but that's unusual - others have had more difficulty. It then took several weeks including another long call in order to actually get it.
* - if I put it on here it'll probably be deleted - just Google < vodafone newbury > and ring the standard geographic STD number that appears - unusually with only 5 digits instead of 6 in the second part.

Hi huggybear
I can see drj has already made you aware of the changes to mobile broadband Payg top ups.
For terms and conditions see here.
Thanks
