Phone camps on to local cell and not VSS

I have been experiencing poor call success using my local network so I recently purchased a VSS 3. It is correctly set up and I have been able to make a few calls. The problem is that the phone constantly camps on to the local cell and ignores the VSS.

Emma from Vodafone's 3 Network 3rd Line Technical team (TRAC) said that I should have been told that the VSS is only really for use where there is no signal as opposed to a poor signal. How can the phone camp on to the local cell (giving 2 or 2 bar reception) when the VSS gives a 5 bar reception.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Regards

Andrew

It seem there are 3 other posts with exactly the same problem... 😞

Hi @asinclai

I’ve checked the serial number and the Sure Signal is last showing as connected on 16 May at 16:19 and everything is looking good.

Can you advise what kind of router you  are using?

If any improvements have been made within your area, this can also affect the Sure Signal.

You can keep an eye on any changes or updates happening  with our coverage checker.

Thanks,

Sarah

Hello Sarah,

Thanks for your response. It doesn't surprise me that the Sure Signal connected at 16:19 because that was just after I had read the thread about manually turning to airplane mode and back again. In order to get the phone to connect I have to walk up to it and turn the phone to airplane mode and back again and then it will stay connected for around 15 to 30 mins with a very high signal strength and then it re selects the local cell (with lower signal strengths) which then drops pretty much every call.

My router is a Netgear DGND3300v2.

Advice welcomed

Regards

Andrew

Hi @asinclai

We'll need take a closer look at your account to see what's happening. Please contact Live help.

Thanks,

Sukhi

I spoke to Helen from the Tech support team that said that there is nothing wrong with my VSS and that I may have been given wrong advice in that the VSS is ONLY supposed to work for customers who have NO cellualr signal at all, which is clearly illogical nonsense, there must be a threshold aove which the phone camps on to the VSS and not the local network cell.

The other alterntive is that it is my ISP's issue and not VF's.  I will move my VSS to another internet conenction and try it there.

I don't hold out much hope but let's see...

Andrew

Hello,

As requested I connected my VSS to a neigbour's internet conenction and it exhibited exactly the same characteristics.  Everytime I come in to the house I have to turn the phone to airplane mode then back on and it selects the VSS, the phone will not automtically camp on to the VSS.

Next piece of advice welcome...

Andrew

Just to add that this customer

has exactly the same problem I do.  Any chance you could try the same fix?

Hi @asinclai

Looking at your symptoms, this is a different scenario.

Speaking to our higher tech team, they've advised that this is usually caused if the surrounding mobile signal is stronger than the Sure Signal broadcast.

If that's not the case for you, we'll need to open an investigation with the higher tech team.

So we can get secure access to your account and get the ball rolling, please come and speak to us on Live help.

You're welcome to provide a link to this thread when you connect to an agent to save you having to run the tests again.

Cheers,

Ben
