Rejected for monthly contract

Paulhqpr

Hi All,

I was this morning rejected for a pay monthly sim only contract, which is £20 per month.

Basically, I have £0 credit history with anyone for the last 6 years.  The reason why I want to take a small contact out is to build my credit score from 'Average' to Good+.  I spend a lot of time in Switzerland and I am paid in Swiss francs, so I haven't used my UK bank account for a very long time.  I have no loans, credit cards, mortgage etc.  I get that no credit history is seen as an unreliable source to see how I would pay, but I was wondering if I took out a pay as you go contract, that would improve my standing with Vodaphone internally, which would allow me to successfully apply again in say 3 months.  I don't want to try with another provider as I've checked my Experian report this afternoon and it's already decreased by 46 points due to the Vodaphone search.

Thank you in advance

Paul

Hi

I appreciate the difficulties you mention.

The only issue is can see with payg is no actual credit check is required so nothing would show on your Credit File at all.

Activities such as applying for credit cards and overdrafts can help.

That said even having a good credit score does not guarantee acceptance either.

It's also best practice to leave at least 90 days before applying again to let your Credit File and score recover.

Hi @Paulhqpr

I think you have probably answered your own question.

You don't have any credit history, no debts, no loans or credit cards and are paid in Swiss Francs. This means when you apply for credit, there is nothing to go on to prove you are credit worthy.

If you contact the credit reference agencies, they will be able to offer support and advise on how to improve your credit rating and score.  There are times when having a bank loan or credit card which is regularly paid is not such a bad thing.

Hopefully, when you are able to reapply in three months time, your credit score will have improved and you will be accepted for a SIM only contract.

In the meantime, with PAYG looking good with Big Value Bundles and Freebees, it might be an option. Please see the link below.
