Hi,
so I am in Ireland at the minute with a British Vodafone contract. My internet, texts and incoming calls are working fine. However, I cant make an outgoing call to either UK or Irish numbers. My phone is saying I have signal but is displaying a little R sign as well. My APN is with vodafone.co.uk .
what is wrong?

You may have one of these activated
If not try live chat to see if there is anything wrong at account level

The little R in the notifications line is just an indication that you are roaming, rather than connected to your home network.

to make calls in ireland, put +353 in front off the number you are calling, leaving out 00

@rewt As @63johnw said, make sure that you've not got any bars applied to your account using your My Vodafone.
You can also try switching the phone onto flight mode for 10 minutes, then turning it back off, this will make to phone re-search for the closest network and connect to that.

Sorry for the delayed reply.
I checked myvodafone and I have no bars in place.. I tried with international dialing codes for Ireland and the UK and still nothing. When I try to call (with or without int. codes) it starts dialing but just cuts out before actually ringing.
I turned the airplane mode on and left it for 30minutes and still nothing. SMS, data and incoming calls are working fine, just can't make outgoing calls. I have also tried turning it off and on again.
The Vodafone technical people in the store couldn't fix it either and annoyingly I cant call technical services. I am wondering if it could be the APN code, as it is set for voadfaone.co.uk. So any advice would be nice.

If you have mobile data OK, there's nothing wrong with the APN you're using. I don't think it can be what you typed, but it has no bearing on your inability to make calls. It must be that there is a bar in place, although it doesn't show up on your account, so I'm afraid it's something for CS or the tech folk to fix.
