Interestingly, when I added a new number to my contract, I managed to send an MMS almost immediately. I wasn't trying to and it foxed me for a while until I spotted that I'd sent an SMS to an email address (due to the way the contacts were set up). The thing is that MMS was apparently provisioned from day 1. Would I be right in assuming that this is therefore something that's done at account, not number, level?

A Bit off topic but in the days of Snapchat, Instagram, Whatsapp, Theema & many many others why is it so expensive to send an MMS ???
Yes 10 years ago when it was the only way to send a grainy low qual pic to someone I guess Voda & others could get away with a charge ... but now whats the point ?

hyrm - The provisioning is done at a number level as opposed to account level.

Cheers, Ben
In that case, it would seem that not all numbers are blocked from the start??

Modern phones are capable of sending higher quality images, not to mention video messages, all of which is a bit more of a strain to send than ye olde half-a-pixel images. Conversely, most people are now using WhatsApp, iMessage, Skype, etc. rather than MMS for that kind of messaging. End result is that keeping the network adequately provisioned for MMS services costs more, and with less people utilising the service, this cost is spread a lot less than it used to be. Essentially, when you send a MMS, you're also paying for the fact that three other people don't ever send them because they have SnapChat.

Interestingly, a thing called Rich Communications Suite is being rolled out. The Vodafone implementation is called Message+. In time, it'll be the default messaging app and it works pretty much like Whatsapp etc. I agree about the charges for MMS, but it's a legacy service and I suspect it'll just die out rather than be updated.
As I understand it, if your use RCS/Message+ to send something to someone who doesn't use the app, the message just comes through in the old format, so it has a degree of backwards compatibility.

I have herd of this Bloat and not for me in a erra of security this is a big NO NO
see
. Your information
So that we can operate Vodafone Message+, troubleshoot it if you’ve got a problem, and optimise and improve its performance, we use your information in the following ways:
- We collect your mobile phone number and, we periodically access the contact list or address book on your phone. We don’t collect names, addresses or email addresses from your contact list or address book, but we do need access to the mobile phone numbers there so that we can connect you to the recipients of your messages through Vodafone Message+.
- We collect some information about your phone and your use of Vodafone Message+ (for example, language, equipment and usage statistics).
- We’ll share some information with your Vodafone carrier and get some information back from them: your mobile number and other information about your tariff and the services available to you.
- Vodafone Message+ shows you and other users when you are using Vodafone Message+ as you will appear ‘online’ or when you have last used the Vodafone Message+ as the date and time of your last access will be displayed. You can disable the last seen functionality at all times going to ‘Settings’ and unchecking ‘Last active’ option.
This is from there terms and conditions see
and see the full T&C on http://www.vodafone.co.uk/about-this-site/terms-and-conditions/vodafone-message-plus/
and about the app on http://www.vodafone.co.uk/discover-vodafone/apps-and-downloads/vodafone-message-plus/
Default Message app for me
Or use Google Hangouts or any other app that is secure and not used for Vodafone use
This better not come on any Firmware updates as it clearly states it can be turned off
This does not fix the MMS issue what would would be a simple tick box in the my account page to turn this on if people are used to sending MMS and have no issues with it then they need to have this what if the smart phone can not run this app eg a feature phone eg Blackbery devices, they can still recive a MMS
Plus they are far to many Messaging apps and a simple sms or mms is what people are used to and its fairley secure now
If you send alot of MMS pics Vodafone offer a Picture message add on see the list of extras - http://www.vodafone.co.uk/discover-vodafone/extras/index.htm
