Samsung S6 edge plus wont connect to Sure Signal V3 when in LTE/3G auto mode

Been getting poor voice quality recently and think i may have tracked it down to the fact that network setting on my Samsung S6 is normally set to LTE/3G/2G.  Whilst in this mode my phone wont connect to the SS to make/recieve calls.  It does however connect if I change network selection to 3G only.

Is this correct beviour or should in pick up the the SS 3G signal when i make a call?

@NeilHepworth @agdunkley If you've got a week 4G signal in your area your phone will attempt to connect to the external site as opposed to your Sure Signal, which is 3G only.

This will therefore cause connectivity issues, which switching down to 3G only whilst using the Sure Signal will resolve.

Hi

Under usual circumstances the phone should just pick up the 3G signal being pushed out by the Sure Signal device although I have read where if a person turns off for example 4G on the phone then it forced the phone just to search out 3G and not the best signal strength available at the time.

Just to clarify, everything works fine when in 3G mode, ie. it does connect through SS.

In 4G mode however, it doesnt connect to the SS when i make i make calls, so presume it is using the weak 4G/3G service that I get locally in preference to the strong SS 3G.

So although I have found a solution (i.e. switch off 4G), its a bit of a pain when in and out of office.

Would be good to know whether this is

  • something likely to effect any 4G phone (have seen a few people with iPhones having issues)
  • somthing effecting my phone
  • something effecting samsung phones
  • a suresignal or carrier issue (i.e. Vodafone)

Cheers

Hi

Vodafone does not yet support VoLTE (calls over WiFi) so that shouldn't be a factor. My iPhone connects to the strongest signal available and as such that's why I suggest to change the settings although I appreciate that can be a pain.

Equally doubt anything to do with wifi as i get exactly same behaviour whether or not wifi is on.

I bet the problem is caused by a combination of factors

  • the week 4G signal (meaning my phone connects to the weak external signal where 4G available), and
  • a problem with the phone s/w (i.e. drops down to down 3G on same physical network connection when making call rather than searching for new stronger (SS) connection).

Anyhow, all speculation, lets see if Vodafone can explain.

I beg to differ but Vodafone does support WiFi calling, I have it enabled on my Samsung S7 and it has worked for me, as I also have similar SS connection issues
