Smart Ultra 6 Carrier logo in top left corner of notification - how do I remove it?

Hi, How do I remove the Vodafone logo on the left of my black strip at the top (notifications bar). The option 'show mobile network' which works for other brands is missing on the Ultra 6.

Thanks

I rather suspect that it's something that is being introduced on the more recent phones, which I don't regard as very good news. My Samsung S3 Mini doesn't show it, though it may be relevant that I bought it unlocked. In fact, it took me a little while to see any indication of the network I was using! Eventually I discovered it below the notifications, if I pulled down the notification bar.

An unlocked Sony Z1 Compact does display it, but only on the lock screen - as soon as I've unlocked the screen, it disappears, and only reappears if I pull down the notification bar twice in order to access the quick settings. An unlocked Sony E1 displays it at the foot of the lock screen, and also of both the notification and quick settings screens. The other three phones are locked to Vodafone, and are a little more forthcoming about the network being used!

I've looked with interest at the Android Central link provided by the OP - none of my phones seem to have the settings described there. I've also tried the Roaming Info app mentioned there, which indeed puts the network logo in the notification bar, but I've no way of knowing whether that would be in addition to the wording, or in place of it - I rather suspect it would be in addition, which only makes the situation worse!

So, sorry, despite our best efforts, and a certain amount of confusion along the way, it looks as though we can't help.

The carrier logo was definitely on the top left of a number of Android handsets I've had.  I can't remember which version of Android this changed on but on both the S5 and S6 you'll see the logo top left on the lock screen and when you swipe down but not on the home screen.

Thanks all for your help.

FWIW - Tried the roaming info app, it just added a logo, Vodafone UK still remained. 😞

If it was EE it wouldn't be so bad but it takes up such a large chunk of the bar.

Clearly moto have it so you can remove it so Vodafone could too, is there a suggestions box or something similar for Vodafone?

My daughter tried to help and unless she can be sure there will be no logo then Vodafone have lost a potential customer in her. She has a sim free G4 with a tesco sim and has no logo.

Thanks all again.

Are you seriously saying that someone wouldn't buy a great phone for the price because it shows the words Vodafone UK in tiny letters at the top of the screen on a bar that is designed to show that plus all of the other information you need there as well?

Not when there's so much choice. The G4 doesn't have it for example. She's not interested in Apple. If she's really desperate for a specific phone that has it and you can't remove it she can root it or opt for EE or O2 carriers which take up far less room than the rather ridiculous Vodafone UK does. Voting with her feet might make them be a bit more considerate, probably not, but you never know. 🙂

But takes up so much room where? What else would or could go there apart from nothing? Why would the network remove its branding from its own product?

Why would the network feel the need to remind me what brand I bought and it's not as if it's visible to other so serving as a marketing tool. The brand is already on the phone back. It serves no purpose to me doesn't serve a purpose to vodafone, but does get in the way.

It's all personal preference of course but it gets in the way of what? Nothing else can or will appear there. What gadget doesn't contain visible branding? The Apple logo, Microsoft Window? When I watch TV do I see the word Panasonic in big letters underneath the screen?

I think your TV might be faulty as mine has the word Sony under it... :smileylol:

I'm one of those who was blissfully unaware of the "danger" of the network's name appearing there. On all the smartphones that I've used over the past 4 years, there has been a neat subdivision - transitory stuff like the icons indicating that new texts or emails have arrived on the left, while more long-term stuff like wifi or mobile signal levels, battery charge, time all appear on the right (see posts 8 and 16).

On reflection, I like what I've got, generally know which network I'm using without needing to check, and really don't want "vodafone UK" cluttering up the view - it makes its presence known in plenty of other places. So, when I next need a new phone, I can see that I'll be visiting assorted sellers of phones, to ensure that whatever I buy, either this feature isn't there or can be turned off.

So, many thanks to the OP for alerting me to the danger!
