I have just checked manually for software update and received this terrifying message 

THE OPERATING SYSTEM ON YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN MODIFIED IN AN UNAUTHORISED WAY TRY DOWN LOADING SOFTWARE USING SMART SWITCH ON YOUR P.C OR VISIT A CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTRE 

This nearly gave me a heart attack I have been carefull with my s7 edge and only down loaded a couple of apps play store 

Can some one give me some peace of mind here or am I in trouble

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.

When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx 30 seconds later.

Release all of the keys.

Press the Volume down key to highlight "wipe cache partition."

Press the Power key to select.

Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press thePower key to select.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.

Have you downloaded anything away from play store. 

 

Download the app PhoneInfo from Playstore which provides lots of info about your phone. Check if Knox still shows as 0x0

Just to add. 

 

If this was my situation and I was sure nothing had happened on the phone to warrant this message is first turn the phone Off and On and try a software search again. 

 

If it shows again then clear the system cache and try again. 

 

Final resort would be a Back up and factory reset.

Could you possibly confirm how to clear the cache without losing data

I can confirm that I've done this and not lost data.   There may also be a Clear Cache option in Settings|Storage, which is supposed to do the same thing.

Thanks people for all replys can't thank you all enough

After them system clearances I went and tried

again and got the correct 

SOFTWARE UP TO DATE 

But I noticed last few days leading up to it,and still a little bit after the clearances  my phone was slowing down. So I started uninstalling my apps.

I only have 4

SPOTIFY , PITCH LAB,,

ANGRY BIRDS AND MY VODAFONE 

So I started with ANGRY BIRDS

And as soon as I uninstalled Angry Birds I noticed immediately the speed of my phone immediately improved and then I double checked

 SOFTWARE UPDATE again, And got correct info. 

Just to answer question before of what hrym (Thanks) said.

These were only the apps I

Had installed but 

BANDOFBROTHERS had already given me a reply previously about side loading and tripping KNOX

And as my device is only nearly 2 months old  I was aware and vigilant about what I installed and yes I only used the play store 

But as my previous thread

I had turned permissions off for angry birds because the last time I spent time on it it kept wanting to connect to the internet but as I didn't have mobile data on obviously it couldn't connect

but I didn't uninstall ( really in hindsight I should of saw the warning signs) and then just a few hours before it had asked to update but I didn't think any thing of it.but I didn't update.I'll admit in not on a level of you chaps and ladies. but I think because I had turned some permissions off  for ANGRY BIRDS

(but if I am wrong i know one of  you life savers will put me in the right direction )it must of  been angry birds trying to either change the permissions back or I had pickled up something

But again I know you have to be careful of what sites I visit so I had been vigilant and had learned a lot in the previous 18 months on my s5 (different phone I know but surely the same things apply in usage safety), as this is my pride and joy and my only access to the internet,

I have learned a shed load of info on here from you guys 

So although every thing seems to be working fine again at moment but I could do with finding out that  I haven't tripped Knox of which I admit know nothing about. so my last concern is making sure I haven't tripped that,

I'll try and find the thread on how to do it safely 

I  still do not feel total releif this gave me a real scare.

Just to add, I have been extra carefull as on the nougat update my phone froze after down loading and at the install part and my phone had to go in for repair just after 2 weeks of getting it so I have been on high alert because handing my brand new phone over was traumatic .might sound over the top but that's how I felt cos I had to find 2 stores before one could actually send it(another story)what I am trying to get across is I have been over the top carefull

SORRY BANDOFBROTHERS I missed your little reply about  KNOX yes it's says 

0X0 void is that correct? I've had a brain fart here with all this I panicked again when you said 

0x0 and I saw void next to it so  0x0 void is that what need to see ?

Knox 0x0 means all is ok. Your Knox hasn't been tripped.

Just for a little further clarity @SKYMAN513 on sideloading and how  Knox can be tripped. 

 

Sideloading is downloading something onto your phone out of the sanctity of PlayStore. It's usually an Apk File. For example I'm not impressed with the Facebook App as imo it's a resource hog and battery drain so I considered Facebook Lite but it isn't really for us in the U.K, but can be obtained by sideloading via an Apk File. Something I'm personally hesitant in doing. I now just access Facebook via my URL box via a shortcut saved on my homescreen.

 

 Sideloading shouldn't trip your Knox Counter. 

 

Just to add balance As member @Stevie1 has mentioned before he has sideloaded Apk Files and his phone is fine. 

It's down to personal experience and preference. I've Jail-Broken iPhones for years so am aware of the Pro's and Con's. But the difference is Apple sandbox their iOS which means customisation is considerably less than Android which is more Open Source.

So to get what I feel is the best potential of iPhones I needed to jailbreak. I don't feel the same with Android and my s7 edge. 

 

What can trip your Knox Counter is the act of rooting which allows access to the phones file system. Some prefer to do this to gain further customisation than Android normally allows. Having a phone rooted for them supersedes the need for Manufacturing Warranty I assume.
