Software update

I have just checked manually for software update and received this terrifying message

THE OPERATING SYSTEM ON YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN MODIFIED IN AN UNAUTHORISED WAY TRY DOWN LOADING SOFTWARE USING SMART SWITCH ON YOUR P.C OR VISIT A CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTRE

This nearly gave me a heart attack I have been carefull with my s7 edge and only down loaded a couple of apps play store

Can some one give me some peace of mind here or am I in trouble

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.

When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx 30 seconds later.

Release all of the keys.

Press the Volume down key to highlight "wipe cache partition."

Press the Power key to select.

Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press thePower key to select.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.

Thanks for everything, and what you have just posted, (for me and any one else who is unsure)

As a reference tool absolutely brilliant imo

And  Stevie1 I've found I found  is posts helpfull (although some involve having to involve Google when I hear another new tech word) , and I could tell  stevie knew what he was doing,

he knew what was safe to install and what not,(bixby).I know I keep saying thanks but each of these problems solved have saved me journeys into town to my local store, which isn't nearby I might add so Thanks to both

P,s I got myself in such a panic I didn't read the post in order and missed 2 until later so apologies

Do You no you don't need to root your phone to gain access to the bootloader all you need to do is enable the developer mode by going into the settings and tapping the build number 5 to 7 times you will now have access to the developer mode look for OEM unlocking and switch on your bootloader will now be unlocked and will have full access to the phone systems but l wouldn't recommend anyone doing this unless they no what they are doing.

Android added this for developers to test apps and apk's and custom roms before releasing them to the general public it can also be used to remove bloat ware but if you don't no what your doing then l wouldn't recommend you trying this and stay well clear.

Hi @Stevie1

I've looked at the developers option to be able to tweak the animations part of my phone but then returning the phone to pre Developer activation is a pain. Without checking I think it's a Factory Reset.

Totally agree in respect to going into places of the phone that can have potentially critical impact on the phone.

I am now thanks to you guys.

although  I got the correct  software up to date earlier my phone was still struggling loading pages.

But it was most noticeable when typing long messages.I kept using my s5 as a reference point.and it was night and day in comparison.

So I went for wipe cache partition and the first time I bottled it because after I had pressed the keys together the first thing I got was a blue screen with a yellow triangle saying NO COMMAND

And then the menu came up with the options mentioned.

But as it was my fist time and it said there's no going back it took me 2 days to build  the courage to do it

Any way I have finally went through with it and checked it again and the correct message LATEST UPDATES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED (PHEW )

So thanks BANDOFBROTHERS and everyone else who offered there advice.

Just to add as I  knew I had only only downloaded from playstore a handful apps so that's why my bum fell out big time and I had just got my phone back from repair after update so I not only thought I had tripped Knox some how without trying (of which I learned from you guys) I also thought I was going to have to part  with my phone and get it repaired

Once again thanks for time and effort.

It's certainly a journey on what we do with our phones wether it's Leaving it as it came out of the box, and use TouchWizz to using Launchers like Nova Prime to theming out the phone. The best thing I find is that when your investigating on how to do things like this is to also equally investigate what to do if any issues arise.

When a phone lags in my experience it can be poor network connection, the phones internal memory is almost full, a rogue app is causing issues, a 3rd party keyboard or alternative SMS app is hiccuping or conflicts like that. It's rare that it's a Hardware or Firmware issue unless a recent firmware update has been applied and the phone needs a system cache clear or as a last resort a Factory Reset.

Best advice I was given many moons ago was not to panic and to just turn it off and on to soft reboot it, and go from there.

And then realise forums like this and Google is your friend for advise before rushing into anything.

Yes I found it quite scary and panic stations.

As for the forum it saved me journeys to my nearest store or maybe even having to  part with my phone again .To have repair have a look.

(My parcels once they get in a transit van, have a bad habit of jumping 6ft in the air all by themselves)😎
