Sure Signal V1 not working

SS V1 (s/n 21221963784) stopped working about ten days ago. Power on. Changed ethernet cable. Tried numerous resets. Spoke to someone on support 36 hours ago who said they would remotely reset. All to no avail. Power light is on; @ light flashes then locks on; Service light flashes for a while then the whole sequence repeats.

When I try reset, on pushing reset button down all lights come on together - not in sequence as they should; on removing power supply (still holding reset) and powering up again after 5 secs the lights come on in sequence as they should.

I would appreciate some help from Vodafone on this been without mobile use in office for 10 days.

Does it need a firmware upgrade? If so can that be pushed through?

Many thanks.

Changed the power adapter (purchased from Maplin) and all up and running. Thank you.

Does the adapter fail and only provide a reduced charge which means the SS wont function properly? The lights were all on suggesting it is not a power problem.

Hi Topple,

Yes, you are more or less correct...... The power adapters are losing their capacity to provide sufficient current to correctly power the SS, it can provide sufficient power during the start up, but when the SS tries to switch on it's 3G transmitter it requires almost maximum current (around 1.2 Amps) ...... the power adapter cannot provide this heavy drain and the voltage will drop (but not low enough to extinguish the power light) and you are back to the beginning of the start up again.

This problem is purely age related and has nothing to do with software/firmware updates or any other reason other than age.

These adaptors are only a domestic type of device and have been running mainly continuously for the last 4-5 years which isn't such a bad life for this type of unit.

As you discovered, the power light appears to be correctly on at all times, this puts people off the scent and they just don't believe you when you say 'replace your power unit'. :smileyfrustrated:

I guess it won't be long before we will have the same problems with the V2 SS.

Mike.
