Talking phone

Just before I upgraded to a s7 edge a couple of months back.

I was using an S5 although not everyone liked the all plastic design

IT was my first real smart phone on contract and I loved it for it's features (I do miss air browse)

Another feature that I started using as it only came in the last couple of months of using it.

IT would read out what things like the reason I had set alarms for or calender events

Now I don't mean the accessibility settings(that's a story itself) were it reads out everything on screen.and you get the green dots all over the place

this one was quite usefull.

I mean just calender events, appointments or alarms.

I've been trying to get my s7 edge to do the same but have only had a quick look in accessibility.

But that menu frightens the life out of me

When I first tried it in my S5 a couple of years back I was stuck there for 2 days with this horrible American accent repeating every action I interacted with funny now absolute nightmare at the time.

Is there a safe way to do this with the s7 or has Samsung dropped it

Hey @SKYMAN513

No Sumsung is not dropping the phone. They have done a huge update, which has changed the phone in may ways. However thought this update was better than the old set up, its hugely mistaken.

You should still be able to do the things you want on your phone, the problem is where to find them and usually you need to set it back up again.

If you can tell me what you exactly done on your S7 before the update, (What apps / features etc you used) I will find it for you and let you know where you can find it in your phone.

Yes for the record the new Samsung Update is totally bonkers!

You had of chuckling with that😆

I didn't put it down correctly (waffling)

Them features were on my S5

I upgraded to this S7 edge 2 months ago

and it is the s7 edge that I am trying to get it to do the same as the s5

As for how i got  the s5 to start to speak calender events and alarms

No idea and I don't have it to hand to search it

Hahaha! @SKYMAN513

Good to have a waffle sometimes.

However, I come back bearing gifts.

Click into Settings // Accessibility // Scroll to near the bottom, you will see TalkBack is Off as the standard set up. If you click it and turn on, this should give you what your looking for.

I will also PM you, just incase you dont check on of this topic

Hope this helps

Ha ha much appreciated buddy

Hey

No probs, always enjoy helping people.

I like not knowing an answer, so I get to go and do some research LoL

I've got similar personality just before I got my phone it was every thing guitar related.

But must admit all this talk of xeu btk and odin (still don't know what they mean ha )Is a bit harder to get your head around

Its actually pretty simple, its just a long winded process and you could really damage your device if you dont know what your doing.

Let me give you a quick example, so Vodafone offers a service called WiFi calling on your mobile. (Just basically talking over the net instead of a cell tower) However in order to use this service you need to have a device directly from Vodafone, meaning its lock to them. People who go to Carphone Warehouse, they get unlocked phones. Anyway, seems to be pretty big these days, "its the new thing" but you can only use a Vodafone locked device, as that holds everything it needs.

Vodafone updates your device, so basically to put their stuff onto your phone which Vodafone users use.  Sounds easy, but its quite tricky if you dont understand Flashing phones, hard resetting, going into the "Boot" options.
Those names you mentioned is the software you need to factory reset your phone/ flash your phone, the put the file contents into the phone.

By doing all of this, you run the risk if you phone breaks and you send it to Vodafone and they check these things and can see the logs as mobiles holds a lot of logs, if you decide you factory reset, flash or aynthing outside the normal remit of having a phone is Void and will not be covered under your warrenty.

Anyway, thats just a snall discrectipn of some of the things those programs do. Hope it gave you a little bit better understand lol

Thanks for that only just noticed your message I normally get a notification yes it gave me more knowledge there is always room to learn more and

especially at the speed this tech changes.

Any way I stay away from all that stuff that I haven't got my head around yet, and when I see a cheap decent phone(cash converters) I will get one and try and learn all that tech on a disposable  device instead of my daily use device.

I down loaded about phone  app cos I got a scary message.

I did get a reply from a respected member

On the about phone app were it says Knox 0x0 void

Does that mean it's ok.

What set me off a couple of weeks back I did a manual software update check and got the message

YOUR DEVICE AS BEEN MODIFIED  IN AN UNAUTHORISED WAY

But at that time I had installed angry birds but it kept wanting to change my settings so after that message I uninstalled and never had the message since, and when I search for update it says YOUR software is up to date so just to be sure regarding knox does void 0x0 mean it's ok

I'm just looking for reassurance and a second opinion

I really wasn't aware that factory reset voids your warranty.

Modifying in the ways you described makes sense for warranty purposes because any one can practically a

attempt it but getting it right is a different story.

But factory reset gets my cheeks twitching because it's in the settings unless it warns you before you attempt it

I've heard many people on here say clear cache and soft reset and factory reset as last resort but I've personally have never seen any mention after factory reset you have voided your warranty.

Just confirms the saying don't believe everything you hear do your own research as well as taking note

Major thanks for that I was thinking of doing that if my problems don't get any better
