Hi,

Sounds like Whstsapp has taken over your stock messages App somehow.

if this was my situation I'd uninstall whatsapp and then check you can send normal messages again.

And then re install whatsapp paying particular attention to any app permissions it asks for.

sorry shpould have said I did uninstall and powered off and still the same problem. only lists contact wo use Whatsapp?

Ok.

Before uninstalling i personally find its best practice to force stop an app and clear its cache. This helps to remove any remnants of the app.

You could Try Clearing your system Cache in settings.

Im wondering if there's anything more in your Contacts App to look at ?

If that fails then as a last resort you could create a back up to preserve your data , remove any Sd Card if applicable and then Factory reset which takes the phone back to the last firmware update.

Hi @sallyjustice

You don't need to delete WhatsApp.  It's more than  likely you have accidentally set WhatsApp as your default message appliction and you need to select SMS text messaging.

This means your phone will automatically choose WhatsApp to send a message.  You can find how to turn this off from the link below.

Set up your phone for text messaging

Thanks done all this but it still keeps saying "Unableto connect to the internet please check settings" seems it keeps thinking whatsapp is default?

It may be that a factory reset is the only way out of this - don't forget to back up your content before you do that.   However, one other thing:

Can you connect to the internet over mobile data at all - ie use other apps, browse websites?   If not, your APN may be corrupt.  Refreshing it involves texting WEB to 40127, which is distinctly Catch-22, but there are guides to setting it up manually as well - @BandOfBrothers knows more about that than I do.

You could also try re-installing WhatsApp, then making sure it isn't the deafult message app and finally uninstalling it in the way Lee suggests.

thanks for your help yes as you say  of course I can't text to 40127 as you say. Maybe @BandOfBrotthers can advise a manual set up. I don't want to do factoryreset I would rather go to Vodafone shop and they can back it all up before hand but that is such a nuisance to get to. I have force a stop and uninstaled and reisntalled and it doesnt change anything. I did spend half an hour with Vodafone Chat line who also mentioned 40127 but I can't do that of course! I can connect to web sites and google play so wifi working fine. get the same error message if am connected to wifi or not so as you say probably corrupt APN or?The setting says pp.vodafone.co.uk

Hi, not sure if its the same for your phone but if I go to settings, apps, advanced, I then have a default app settings tab, in there I can set my messaging app.

I have set the messaging app to default pp.vodafone.co.uk but not working anymore?
