I recently upgraded my phone online to use a discount code that I was able to get through my employer however Vodafone have added a new number to the account rather than upgrading my current plan. Am I able to move my old number over to the new plan that they have setup? I was also wanting to move my contract out of my dads name and into my own, will this now be effected by the upgrade not being done correctly?
Thanks.

If you mean the Advantage discount, this will be with the number it was first added to and will need to be reapplied when there is any change of contract and that specifically includes a change of number.
Before changing the number it would be best to get the change of ownership done first, this is easily done with your Father calling the change of ownsership team and giving his authorisation and with you accepting the contract into your name, subject to a credit check, the contract will be in your name the same day.
As far as the number change is concerned, you will need to ask Vodafone to put the number on PAYG or port out to an alternative network and back in on the number you want to keep. With it taking 30 days to transfer to PAYG, the quickest way would be to port out and back in.

So does that mean I will be using the new number for a short period while my old number gets transferred onto the new plan?
Is the porting out and back in simple to do?

Asking Vodafone for a Pac is via a short call to customer services.
That needs to be given to the alternative network within 30 days as it expires after that.
When the alternative network uses the Pac the Vodafone contract is immediately ended and any final bill is sent in around 2 weeks.
This process is meant to be seamless but I would be in error if I didn't tell you not all porting processes are seamless.
Some do have issues from what is called a Split Port where not all the files have settled causing issues with calls and or texts etc which needs then to be investigated to be put right.

Thank you. I think I am best to go into Vodafone and see what they suggest the best/easiest option would be for me.

I would suggest you cancel the New Contract if it has not been more than 30 days.
Then go into the Store wiht your Dad, Transfer the current number in your name. Once done, then upgrade and apply for the Discount. No chance of anything going wrong.
To transfer the number to the new contract, you will have to wait 30 days before your curent number is put on PAYG and then transferred to your new number. And apply for Discount. There is a chance of things going wrong.
Or port out the number to another network and port back in onto the new number. And apply for Discount. As mentioned Split Port can be an issue but usually get resolved eventually.
3 option for you, you decide which you prefer.

I'm inclined to agree with Getafix. That does seem the simplest solution.

Thank you for your advice.
I thought about perhaps cancelling the contract however the problem I have is that I have been sent and have already used the phone so I am not sure how that would work. I also have to use the discount code I have online so it’s not even something the store would be able to help with. I think I will be going in to store to see what they suggest.
Thank you

You have 30days as cooling off period. As long as phone is not damaged then you can return it.
You will have to apply for discount again irrespective which option you use.

Having had a further thought about this, it may be better to get the number changed first to the new contract and then complete the change of ownership to your name. The reason for this is Vodafone have a three month clear payment rule and you would have be able to have the one line in your name until the third payment had cleared.
Until the number changed, you would indeed need to use the new number for a short period. The other alternative is to ask your Father to cancel the new contract and do an upgrade for the number you want to keep.
It may be worth mentioning that the VA discount only applies to contract taken out direct with Vodafone. There is further information on the VA below.
