My family will be traveling to the UK this summer from the US and I wanted to get a micro SIM for my daughter's iPhone 4S. Can they be purchased in advance (understanding that they can't be activated until they are actually in the UK? Unlocking the phone is not an issue.
What about the Wireless HotSpot? We're looking at one of those as well. Does the credit applied to each start upon activation or upon purchase? I'm assuming upon activation.
Thanks!

I've checked the store locator and there isn't a Vodafone store at Edinburgh Airport. There is, however, a store about 2 miles away at The Gyle Shopping Centre.

Thanks for the offer of finding out for me.
I think at the moment I'll turn data roaming off and just use wifi.
On the calling side, I don't plan to make that many calls, so will take the hit on the overseas charges.
If that changes though i'll shout

OK. I did visit the Verizon store today and asked the guy there if you could purchase a SIM card at a Verizon store and put it into your Vodophone IPhone to obtain service. He did not know and referred me to the global tech support people. I am calling them soon and will ask them when I have them on the phone.

Once again, thank you for all of your information. I totally understand the freebees plans for the SIM cards. I am still confused on the pay as you go phone. We just want a cheap phone for my daughter; so she can call and text. When I look on the website, it looks like you have to sign a 2-year contract to get a phone. Do you have "disposable" phones that can be loaded with minutes and texting and can be topped up when necessary?
