USB Dongle with External IP

Hi,
I have been going round in circles with this tonight and looking for a pointer in the right direction.
We have a customer that has had their ADSL line cancelled by thier ISP by mistake. It's being re-instated but its going to take up to 2 weeks.

We want to get them back up and running especially email as soon as possible.

I have set up a 3G wireless router and tested it with my vodafone 3G wireless dongle and everything is fine except that it has a shared external IP address and therefore I cant NAT services like email to it. Outbound is fine.. its just inbound that I need to get working.

What do I need to do to get something that will give me an external IP address? Can I change the tariff and APN on my existing SIM? Do I need to buy a new one? and if so what do I need to ask for? I have tried tonight to talk to sales but no one seems to have the answers?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Warby,

I'm afraid that all of our modems use our SIM's and as such use our APNS at network level, these APN's all use a range of IP addresses which we are unable to change these as it would then mean that the netwok would not allow any outbound connection to the internet through our network and its servers.

Is the email a company email? does it have a web portal?

This would be the best option or arrange for the emails to be sent to another web mail address EG Gmail and then use the modem to connect to the internet to retrieve these emails via the gmail web portal.

I've had several MX entries for my domains ever since I started using email. It's possibly not easy to do quickly and dependes on the domain hosting
and features supplied. If as sometimes happens my adsl or network goes down, or local server can't handle volume of incoming connections, one of
the two alternative mail servers will be tried. I access the mail on the allternative mail servers by pop3 rather than have it forwarded to my primary
server which may be an unusual setup but this allows me access to mail if my internet connection is down for a prolonged period.
