Was sent under a new contract a new USB modem stick pro with new sim. Have been using old types for 4 years no probelms .

Installed new software and just would not connect said the stick needed to be the default and in the manage devices coudl not unselect the WLAN card

Was on phone to Geoffrey Booth at TCS for over an hour - no success

The card mucked up the pc and had to reformat and start again and even then got the same problems so the follwoing day he said it was the card and a new card and sim was required which arrived yesterday

Have now tried that and get the same issue so have attached the two screen captures in the hope somebody can tell me what to do

As you can see I get a signal but it never connects as you can see from issue 1 grab and issue 2 grab shows you what I see when i try to modify the default and with the WLAN you cannot unslect it

Really fed up and need some assistance please

That is where I am at - you woudl think that Vodafoen products and Dell work ! - will be sorting out the contract issue next week !

Hi Davidd. I had the same problem trying to install a broadband dongle. It seemed to be conflicting with my network programme on my laptop. After trying for 3 hours to install it, the Vodaphone rep I was speaking to advised me to contact Dell (my laptop supplier) to help sort out the problem. I was not prepared to go down this route so cancelled the whole thing. This may not be helpful to you but it shows somethings aren't meant to be!!

Hi Jon, I have spent so much time on sorting this out and have failed. The old modem worked fine on the same laptop so as we dont have any other laptops in our business we have hit a dead end. I would like to now sort out the contact issue as clearly both modems and laptops we have are never going to work. Our contract has only just started and as we have never got them working and have clearly worked with you and your colleages a lot I need soem sort of communication between you and the busienss customer service team to allow me to sort out the contract issue we will no doubt have - can I ask you to do this. It is a real shame as we need USB modems for our business but if we cant then clearly we will have to rethink how we get mobile access. Thanks David

Hi Davidd,

This does seem likely, given that you can replicate the issue on the same laptop. I'm sorry we haven't been able to resolve the problem so far

The error code you're getting is particularly unhelfpul, as it literally translates to "Unknown Error". If there's something unique to these machines that's causing it, it would explain why the issue is so hard to nail down.

Do you have access to any other laptops or PC's at all? If so, please try the modem in one of these, and see if the same problem happens. This would once and for all narrow down the problem.
Since two identical laptops are having the same error, it rules out a software issue, and points towards a hardware conflict. Showing that the modem works fine on a different machine will identify the laptop as the problem, rather than our modem.

Hi davidd

Hmm interesting I'm unsure of any issues with Intel device drivers. its unlikely but you never know.

Are you able to post your msinfo32 log?

Go to Start Menu
Type msinfo32 in the search bar and hit return to open the System Configuration Utility
Select File and Export
Enter a file name and save the file

Thanks
