Hi Davidd. I had the same problem trying to install a broadband dongle. It seemed to be conflicting with my network programme on my laptop. After trying for 3 hours to install it, the Vodaphone rep I was speaking to advised me to contact Dell (my laptop supplier) to help sort out the problem. I was not prepared to go down this route so cancelled the whole thing. This may not be helpful to you but it shows somethings aren't meant to be!!

Hi Davidd,
This does seem likely, given that you can replicate the issue on the same laptop. I'm sorry we haven't been able to resolve the problem so far
The error code you're getting is particularly unhelfpul, as it literally translates to "Unknown Error". If there's something unique to these machines that's causing it, it would explain why the issue is so hard to nail down.
Do you have access to any other laptops or PC's at all? If so, please try the modem in one of these, and see if the same problem happens. This would once and for all narrow down the problem.
Since two identical laptops are having the same error, it rules out a software issue, and points towards a hardware conflict. Showing that the modem works fine on a different machine will identify the laptop as the problem, rather than our modem.

Hi davidd
Hmm interesting I'm unsure of any issues with Intel device drivers. its unlikely but you never know.
Are you able to post your msinfo32 log?
Go to Start Menu
Type msinfo32 in the search bar and hit return to open the System Configuration Utility
Select File and Export
Enter a file name and save the file
Thanks
