Unable To Connect Vodafone 810 To Laptop

crad9

I have had my phone for a month and have connected regularly, but now i am getting device not found. The laptop recognises the phone when connected but the software does not find it.
I have rebooted the laptop and the phone. I have re installed the vodafone software and I cannot connect.
The software says there is an update available but it does not download and I can find nothing on the vf website.
any ideas?

Hi crad9

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems here.

Have you tried another USB slot on your computer? Do you have access to another computer/laptop that you could test this is not a problem with the handset/data cable?

Let me know how you get on with that and if anybody else has any other suggestions please let us know

Thanks

I have tried all four usb ports. When I got the phone it installed the software immediately and worked fine until now, but now the laptop seems to see it as a cd drive. I do not have another pc to try.

Hi crad9

I'm sorry to see that you're still having problems with the connection to the laptop.

Can I ask you what it is that you're trying to do?

Are you trying to to use the phone as a modem or are you just doing some data transfer?

If you're using it as a modem, can I check that when you don't have the phone connected to the laptop, it's able to access the internet?

Do you know anybody else with a Vodafone so you can try and see if their phone can be picked up by your computer.

Also what operating system is the pc using - windows, mac, linux?

You can get the latest software for most pc's from the Support Centre.

Please let me know the answers to the questions above so we can get this sorted out for you.

Thanks

I am using windows XP and Vodafone PC Assistant V1.8.19 which installed on my pc from the phone
when I first connected it. I am trying to synchronise the phone with the pc and manage music and photos via the cable supplied with the phone. It worked ok for a while but now when I connect it says device not found. The software shows an update is available V 1.8.23 but when requested , the update fails to install and I do not see any reference to it on the Support Centre link as above

Hi crad9

The reason the update will not be working is that you computer is not detecting the phone.

Can you try to navigate using the CD Drive that it shows as? You should be able to navigate the files on your phone by going to My Computer>Cd Drive (Whatever the phone is showing as) you can then navigate through the files until you find PC Assistant.exe

If not could you try the phone in another PC/Laptop to see if there is some sort of conflict with your machine.

Please let us know how you get on and if you have any more questions please let us know and we'll be happy to help

Thanks

sorry but you haven't a clue , the phone only has one version of the software .
Pc Assistant is looking for the new version on the vodafone website and it is simply not there.
In any case I have obtained a new version direct from the developers.
This is now installed but has not solved the problem. It seems to be that the pc sees it not as
a phone but as a cd drive. This appears so be a common problem and should be one you should
address.

Do you have a firewall, or anything like that, which could be preventing the usb modeswitch from disconnecting as a SCSI drive, and remounting as a modem?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the very honest feedback!! I'll pass it on to Wayne for you.

Have you tried turning any security off as per Neil's suggestion, this sometimes interferes with the ability for the computer to connect with the handset and use it a s a modem.

If you could get back to us, I'm sure we'll be able to ascertain what the problem is and get this resolved.

Cheers,
