Unable to get Internet connection or send email on Dongle

Pete H
Not applicable
Hi, my name is Pete and I work as a print manager for a firm of screen and digital printers in North Devon.
My boss is currently working away with his new 3G broadband dongle and has found that whilst he can get a connection and receive e-mails, he cannot send to most e-mail addresses and cannot connect through IE8 either.

He has discovered one particular e-mail address that he can send to, but every single other one has failed. He also cannot connect via webmail as IE8 will not connect either.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We found on his Dell Vostro notebook that turning off the wireless connection enabled the 3G connection to work perfectly, but he is using a Dell Netbook right now and the same action makes no difference at all. As I cannot get my hands on the netbook he's using I can't work my way through it as usual and would appreciate some guidance.

Many thanks

Pete

Hi Pete Hilton

Let me start by welcoming you to the eForum. It's always good to have new people on board. :)

The email issue will be related to the SMTP address you are using. There is a work around to resolve this. Try signing up for a 360 account (free), then use the outgoing server which is smtp.vodafone360.com.

When you sign up for the account it will ask you to select your handset to send software to for the 360 service. Just select any handset, as you don't need the full 360 services for a 360 account, you just need to complete the registration.

You say you are unable to use IE8, but have you tried connecting with a different browser, and if so, what happened?

Let me know how you get on, or if you have any further questions.

Okay, i am having a terrible time trying to connect and sort out this e-mail problem. I have set up 360 accounts for the relevant e-mail addresses and the test shows that the outgoing server is correct, however I now find that outside of the 3G network i cannot get any connection at all. is this right? Surely there should be a lower grade 2G connection available?

Any thoughts?

Pete

Hi Pete,

You are correct, 2G should still work. Are you actually picking up a 2G signal, or is there no coverage showing at all? Can you confirm for us the full postcode of where you find yourself without a connection?
