Go to Control Panel and Network Connections (Network and Sharing Center and Manage Network Connections for Vista)
Double click the Vodafone Mobile Connect Connection which should fail with error 692, this is normal
Unplug the device and plug back in to Autoplay and install updated software

Hi Bob,
The VMC Connection doesn't appear unless you've had VMC installed and tried to connect with it at least once in the past. Have you done this?
Where abouts during the installation does the error message occur? Are you installing directly from the USB Modem?
I'll see if we can help with this

Once installed go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs (Programs and features in Vista) and uninstall existing Vodafone Mobile Connect software

VMC was installed and had been in use for some time. I suspect it was not there when I followed the instructions at step 10 because step 5 says
I have now reinstalled VMC from the exe file and things appear to work. I can't install from the stick.

I just followed the instructions on this pinned topic.
There was no VMC Connection
Got message "...gtomsbus.sys on USB Wireless Card installation disk is needed". What is that?
I tried to run the update again but it failed.

HI Bob
We had the same problem installing from the stick, after upgrading the Firmware ( retreived from this forum). After several attemps at trying to get it to work , we installed the non-plug n play version of VMC, also from this forum. this installed okay with no errors, however when plugging the stick in , it complained that another install was in placed. So we copied the driver folders containing the gtomsbus.sys file to another location on the c:\ drive.
We then uninstalled the VMC ( non-plug n plug version) . rebooted and plugged in the stick. when it errored and asked for the gtomsbus.sys file we pointed to the new loaction of drivers. this appeared to worked. (after four hours of stress and lack help from Vodafone help desk)
The sooner vodafone get some better sticks and software the better for all of us
