Retired-Lee
Moderator (Retired)
Moderator (Retired)

This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

I don't know the router at all, but a quick google suggests it is able to accept inbound VPN connections

So if Cisco have done their job right with the interface, there should be an option to say that you are running VPN services that are not to be handled by the router.

This is often known as VPN Passthrough, but could be called something else.

Your IT guys will need ot make sure that is enabled/disabled as required to allow IPSEC VPN through... And if you don't use the VPN on the device at all, open it up for all protocols for good measure (PPTP would be the main one)

MTU tweaking?

Plus...

The router needs to be able to use different forwarding rules depending on the external source IP addresses that traffic arrives from*, not based just on ports and protocols.   As there may be other legitimate traffic using the same ports and protocol(s) from other IP addresses.   "Road Warrior" or home workers on company VPN's etc.

Not all stand-alone routers can do that sadly.

* If you scroll back through this list archive, you'll find the details of Vodafone's SS server farm addresses.  ONLY traffic from those addresses need to go to the Sure Signal.

Regards.

Dave Baxter.

Hi Simon,

By the look of your tracert output, you are using the oxford uni network?

Are you a student there, or are you part of the IT team trying to make the suresignal work?

If a student, I would suggest getting in touch with your IT services department, as they will have a little more than just a 'home broadband router' in place to connect you out to the internet.

And the chances are that much more than web access is going to be blocked... The suresignal will be trying to create a secure VPN tunnel back to vodafone, and that could well be being blocked.

Hi,

As my earlier post, my box still not working after multiple attempts. now i have sent back to SS3 to Vodafone, they have said its is faulty, but just my luck they do not have any Sure signal(any version) stock left.  even though VF website says otherwise see link below.

http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/accessories/SKU75375-white&showType=excVat&segmentType=...

Can you guys check if there is any stock avaiable in one of your branch near my house which from where i can pick it up ? and test sure signal again?

my post code is : sw16 3SJ

so i have entered week 9 with horrible/no Signal in/near my house.

Also as many customer asking to check if the ips are in VF Whitelist. can you check mine please (81.151.91.179)

Thanks,

Oscar (Not happy customer).
