This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

Sorry, pretty rubbish post yesterday.

This is the second ss3 we have tried here. Anna is 84 and uses text a lot as she is partially deaf. Has moved to new flat and is too low to get consistent signal, hence need for sure signal.

Hi

I am having no luck getting my new Sure Signal to work

  • I have registered it on line - no issues with registration, got confirmation e-mail
  • I have plugged it in to Router - TP-Link TD-W8980 - green ethernet indicator on VSS flashes (ethernet ok)
  • I have assigned a fixed IP address to it
  • Device shows as having IP assigned in device list on router
  • I have port forwarded the set of ports listed in thread to the fixed IP I assigned to it
  • I have reset several times, each time leaving an hour between attempts
  • On each attempt, white internet light flashes slowly for a little while then ..
  • Power light flashes; two right hand indicators (service and users) steady orange; internet light off
  • My broadband is through Sky Broadband

Details regarding the various tests are below.

Please help!

Please help as if i cannot get this working soon i will cancel Vodafone and move everything to EE as they dial straight over the Wifi

Iansjones:

In your Vigor router, make sure the MTU value is set for 1500 (or 0)  And also make sure fragmented packets are allowed.

Do you have your router handling the VSDL line directly, or is there an "Openreach" modem between the router and "the line"?   (Ours has the VDSL modem built in.)

The VSS would normaly have a static LAN IP, but it looks like you may have aranged for it to have a public IP.  Should work if that is reachable from the www, but ???    It's not pingable from here!    (But our VSS is pingable on our LAN.)

Regards.

Dave B.

ArukDave,

Thanks for the words but the max is 1492. it wont allow me to set 1500.

Yes mine has the vdsl built in it is 2860.

Worked fine with Plusnet
