This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

OK, ours is from memory a 2870 or similar, also on BT Infinity Fibre (originally with the Outreach VDSL modem, and a Business Hub.   Now with the Draytek on it's own.)

In the same config page where the MTU is, check the box (again I forget the exact name) to allow fragmented packets.   That seems to let things work.

I guess it only takes one hop in the link between the VSS and their servers to have a lower MTU value, and the packets get split.   If the router doesnt let such stuff pass, it never works.

When the Internet LED stays slowley pulsing, leave it be, and let it get on with things.   It should eventually sort itself out, but it can in some instances take a very  l o  n    g     time!

Hope something helps.

Dave B, will be out of the UK for a week now.

Hi @harkin252,

Could you please let us know the Sure Signal serial number?

Thanks,

Matt

Dave,

Thanks for that but it doesnt work. for 2 reasons

1 they are all set but they are on differant screens anyway.

2. I have plugged it into a plusnet connection and it worked straight away same hardware etc.

So conclusion is - IT IS NOT an issue at my end it is an issue on the BT Network.

maybe it is because i have static IP's i dont know.

or maybe the ip range is blocked.

But this is (removed according to House Rules) that Vodafone dont help or even acknowledge it.

So the only way i can get this to work at the momment is to run 2 broadband lines.

1 for the VSS and the other for normal use.

Hi @Matt_B the serial number is 40132618865.
Slight problem it has been on plugged since yesterday as we have been having problems with the home hub5 wireless and are currently trouble shooting that also. I don't feel the two issues are connected as the issue with the sure signal has been going on for 2.5 weeks an the hub issue has only started a since last weekend.

Hi @harkin252

The BT Home Hub 5 has a setting called Smart Setup, please ensure that this is disabled in your router settings and this shoud then work. :Smiling:

Thanks,

Hi

I have just installed a new SSV3. I have previously had a both a V1 and A V3 working on the Belkin router.

I connect the router, it appears in the DHCP list, but after 20 seconds of steady red light and white flashing internet light the lights switch to flashing red light and steady orange in use and in service lights. I have followed the online guides and opened the ports as recommended. I have also disabled the firewall for the SS mac address.

Here is the diagnostics.

1. Speed 5.79 download 0.65 upload

2. Ping 31 ms    Jitter 6ms

3. IP = 84.45.205.177
