Version 3 VSS Lights (Power - flashing, Internet - off, In Service - orange, In Use - orange)

This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

 

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

 

Cause

 

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

 

Troubleshooting

 

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

 

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

 

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

 

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

 

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

@grolschuck : a Draytek 2820 router

It is a pretty poor show that Vodafone UK are forcing customers to try and sort this out themselves; however, I am not surprised given the ludicrously poor service they provide whenever you have the misfortune of having to call them.

Ok, I am going to have another crack at getting my Suresignal to work. I've had this for about 18 months now I think and it only briefly worked at the beginning. I've tried a few times to get working and just end up getting frustrated and giving up.

 

I am now on BT infinity Home hub 5. I've made some progress in that I can now see my suresignal in the Home hub manager and have assigned static IP address and all the relevant open ports.

 

The power light comes on, internet light flashes slowly on and off for a while, then goes back to just power. After a while it gives up and the power light flashes and the in use light is organge. The In service light is not on at all any more, which is back to what it was. I've pressed the reset button a number of times

 

Speed test - 37.43 download, 9.43 upload

Ping test - Ping 25 ms, Jitter 4 ms

Well I have no idea if this is a coincidence but my SS3 now has a pulsing white light.  SOmething is happening.   I will leave it alone!
