This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

LeeH

Our Sure Signal has been working for some time, but now doesn't and shows the Power - flashing, Internet - off, In Service - orange, In Use - orange. Discovered yesterday that, without warning, the VSS was no longer registered to my wife following what appears to be a change to the website log-in. VSS was therefore re-registered on her account yesterday, but it still does not work. I have tried all the suggested solutions discussed on this thread, but without success. Details of tests etc.: Speed Test Download: 11.91Mbps Upload: 0.82Mbps Ping Test: Ping 15ms Jitter 1ms External ip: 212.69.47.9 Vodafone Sure Signal V3-EC-Plug Serial No.: 42144624790 Modem/Router: TP-LINK D9 Tracing route to 212.183.133.177 over a maximum of 30 hops 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 10 ms 9 ms 9 ms telehouse-gw3-lo1.idnet.net [212.69.63.47] 3 9 ms 9 ms 10 ms 212.69.63.76 4 10 ms 9 ms 9 ms telehouse-gw1-fa0-0.402.idnet.net [212.69.63.73] 5 12 ms 11 ms 11 ms ldngw1.arcor-ip.net [195.66.224.209] 6 55 ms 12 ms 41 ms 85.205.0.86 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 * * * Request timed out. 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 * * * Request timed out. 15 * * * Request timed out. 16 * * * Request timed out. 17 * * * Request timed out. 18 * * * Request timed out. 19 * * * Request timed out. 20 * * * Request timed out. 21 * * * Request timed out. 22 * * * Request timed out. 23 * * * Request timed out. 24 * * * Request timed out. 25 * * * Request timed out. 26 * * * Request timed out. 27 * * * Request timed out. 28 * * * Request timed out. 29 * * * Request timed out. 30 * * * Request timed out. That we had to use a VSS in the first place was worrying, but that it is unrealiable and service changes are made without announcement is quite unhelpful. Whinge over. I just need the VSS back and operating. Please. Thank you Colin

Reposted this as the formatting was odd on the last post - sorry: Our Sure Signal has been working for some time, but now doesn't and shows the Power - flashing, Internet - off, In Service - orange, In Use - orange. Hi,

I have done everything as suggested. I can confirm that on my LAN the Sure Signal is responsive to pings. I have run both in uPnP and adding firewall rules specifically for the ports mentioned.

Please can you confirm if you have seen any activity from:

IP Address: 5.64.227.35

VSS Serial No: 42151152461

Thanks, Jon

Sorry but my IP address has just changed to:

2.221.135.114

Please can you confirm if it's logged in. I've done new traceroutes which all terminate within Vodafone's Network. My speeds have increased.

Hi everyone,

@BlacKnight - You'll still need to speak to your ISP bout the packet loss. This isn't something we block internally.

@colin7 - I can't see why the Sure Signal wouldn't work as your results all look fine. I've pushed a resync through for you. To complete the action, please:

  • Hold down the power button
  • When all lights flash together, remove the Ethernet cable
  • Release the power button
  • Replace the Ethernet cable
  • Press the power button once to reset

The unit will connect within one to six hours.

@ELLISJ1234 - Do Sky swap your IP over regularly? This may be why your Sure Signal struggles if it's a dynamic one.

Thanks,

Ben

Thanks Ben, but the VSS still is not working. VSS Serial No.: 42144624790 I followed your instructions (pressing the reset button rather than power as the Version 3 doesn't have a power button, so assumed you meant reset?) The device restarts with a solid power light and then the Internet light flashes slowly. After a minute or so it goes to the flashing power light and solid In Service and solid In Use lights. Please confirm what needs to be done next to get this to work. Thank you Colin

G'afternoon Vodafone and e-forumers,

I spoke with a neighbour this morning. They have five S.Sigs. two type 1 and three type 3. The type 3 have been giving trouble recently with this problem. The type 1 S.Sigs have been no trouble at all !!!.

We both receive our B/band signal by radio from the same relay station; they are 2.44km and we are 2.13km from that same relay.

I have had considerable conversation with my B/band supplier they can not find a problem. THere tracert log, directly to the fibre optic main, returns the same as mine via radio link!

It look as if S.Sigv1 is superior to S.Sigv3.

Response please - Vodafone.

Regards

D,Lox.

Hi @colin7

Please test the Sure Signal at a different location, maybe around a friends house. If the issue still ocurres the next step would be a repair.

@dmlox  Can you let us know what kind of router you are using?

Thanks,

Sukhi

Hello Sukhi,

My router is:

EnGenius ESR1221N2 Ser.No. 40132605193

The combination has been working perfectly since Oct. 2013.

It still is otherwise I would not be writing this.

My S.Sig.v3 ceased working at lunchtime Sunday 3rd. May 2015.

It connected, for short time at 01.29 hr. 11th May. ( from Ben 14.41 hr. 11 May.

Something, somewhere, is O.K. but there is a lot of something not O.K. - but where?

Regards D.Lox

So, no joy testing the VSS elsewhere, just the same set of lights.

I guess that means taking it in for repair. Very unimpressed by all this, as we are dependent on a good phone signal for work.
