This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

Hi

thanks for phoning them.

does that include everyone as sky runs its lines through BT?

Sorry I didn't think to ask. The chap I spoke with was not overly technical and was not able to clarify if the problem lie in the network, server or homehub.

Sorry.

Thanks for liaising with us all.  Do we think there will be an update from them on here?  Pretty poor customer service if not.  I use mine at home for business and I've been offline all day.

Same here Andy.

I work from home and this has skewed the day completely.

I am really surprised we've not heard from anyone in red.

Why supply the forum and not give at least a service update...

I was just thinking the same.

Very poor service Vodafone!!  An acknowledgement at least would be nice.

Last post from the VF tech team was from @Amanda on 29-05-2015 11:29 AM.

Come on Vodafone, let's hear from you!

Guys, things might be looking up (hopefully not a false dawn)..

My VSS has just gone from 2 orange lights to only the 1st light flashing white...fingers crossed..

Sorry to put a downer on things but mine did that twice at 11am but then back to two solid amber lights.

please hurry up vodafone

I have a homeplug to get the Internet into the VSS, and up till now (when the Orange lights have been flashing) the Ethernet light on the Homeplug has been on but not flashing (meaning no traffic across the internet)..it is now flashing furiously so there must been some communcation taking place between the VSS and Vodafone servers that wasn't happening earlier...

Like I say fingers crossed..1st light still flashing white on VSS

I despair of VF. All they had to do in order  to  avoid all this  needless heartbreak and 'forum traffic' was  to get one of their 'techies' ( technical experts  my derriere...they're  just parrots  pumping out the same  old list of  data for punters  to submit) to post a statement  to the effect that there is a problem....and it's being worked on now. It's not rocket science  for  goodness sake !!

However , on the plus side, I am now the  proud owner  of a  new V3, supplied by my local store in exchange for my defunct V1. Thank you for that. It still doesn't work, of course , as our  upload  speed  is too slow for the new version...but with high-speed  broadband  due  in my area in September, I may be in with a chance. Mind you, BT promised  fibre  broadband last August and then this March....so I'm not  holding my breath. None of this  would be  a problem if we had a decent mobile network in the UK to match other  countries....would you believe 5 bars of signal on the top of Mt. Cameroon...but not  even SOS on a  mobile just over  100 miles from London !!!
