This thread has been created to discuss and troubleshoot the version 3 Sure Signal when the light sequence is as follows:

  • Power: Flashing
  • Internet: Off
  • In Service: Solid Orange
  • In Use: Solid Orange

Cause

This light sequence indicates the Sure Signal's not active and it has been unable to authenticate on the Vodafone network

Troubleshooting

Please restart your Sure Signal. If the symptoms continue please add the following details to this thread:

  • Your speed test results from here
  • Your ping test results from here
  • Your external IP address from here
  • Your Sure Signal serial number
  • The results of a traceroute

Traceroute command:

On a PC:

  1. Click on Start and select Run
  2. Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  3. A black box will appear
  4. In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
  5. Paste the output of this command into your reply

On a Mac:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications, Utilities)
  2. Type 'traceroute 212.183.133.177'
  3. Press Enter

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

For the missing port, all i can think is that some of the lower port numbers are not TCP/UDP protocols, so may not go through the forwarding rules too well.

There should be no worries keeping it in the DMZ on the router, although if that is a concern then one more thing to try is setting the VPN Passthrough to allowed if it is not already, and that may be the missing link for the forwarded ports.

Thanks grolshuk.  IPSec, PPPoE and PPTP are all enabled but there is no mention of L2TP in the router.  I'm very happy to keep using the DMZ for the Sure Signal as it avoids using 60% of my port forwarding capability!

Maybe I should think about getting a more up to date router :smileyhappy: ...

Thanks again,

John

IPSec is the one then :Smiling:

If looking at a new router (you say you have a server sitting behind there) I have just installed a Draytek 2850Vn and the suresignal worked with little configuration effort.

Unless you have a SDSL (FTTC/FTTP) connection then that model may be a bit overkill, but I would imagine any other in the range would also work just as well.

I will check it out - thanks for the tip!

I can confirm that IPSec is the one.  I've removed the SureSignal from my DMZ, disabled port forwarding, PPTP and Multicast so I'm just left with IPSec and it's still working.  Remove that and it stops.

I've just done the same and it still works.  But I had IPSec enabled right from the start and it wouldn't do the initial configuration.  I wonder what would happen if I powered it off and then on again?  (Not sure I want to try now it is working :smileyfrustrated:

Hi,

I now have the flashing red and just the mobile phone light orange, the middle one has gone out..

Do you know of a list of routers that definitely work with plus.net (bt)? As I really need this working ASAP and would rather buy a new modem than keep going round in circles as I just don't think in going to get it working..

Thanks

Hi guys,

Everitt1984 - We don't have lists of "working" routers we can point you to. There are too many models available. Most if not all have been seen to work, though.

The light sequence you've mentioned points to a connection or IP allocation issue, so there's a few things we can try.

Firstly, try switching off the Sure Signal, then the router. Wait about 30 seconds and restart the router only. Once it's fully rebooted, restart the Sure Signal.

Also, check the following settings on the router:

 - The Maximum transmission Unit (MTU) should be set to 1500. If it won't go that high, set it to the maximum available.

 - Ensure the following ports are open for forwarding - 8, 50, 123, 500, 4500.

Also, can you confirm if the Ethernet lights on the Sure Signal are lit, flashiong or off?

==========================

Robinv2 - I've done a resync for you. Can you reset the Sure Signal to pick this up?

Dave

Dave - thanks, that seems to be working now.

Nice one :Smiling:

Hello,

The sure signal WAS working just fine for about a week.  Suddenly, I got the blinking red light.  Here are my details.

Ping: 28 ms
