Vodafone K3765 Dongle - I Can't Get VMC (Vodafone Mobile Connect) To Fully Install

geoffmilne
Not applicable
I have just bought a K3765 modem. I run an HP nc6220 with XP SP3. Everything is up to date on the system.

When I install the software (after it failed to install automatically I downloaded the latest version from the Vodafone website) the installation seems to go as expected, but when I restart to complete the installation process I get the error window "Mobileconnect has encountered a problem and needs to close etc" after the restart and mobile connect will just not start up.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times but it is always the same.

I did have a 3 mobile broadband previously but I have deleted that from the system.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. So far the help line has not been able to help.

Hello Ralph,

You'll have to be a little more specific about your problem.

Basically;

1) What version of VMC are you using?

2) Is it wrong to assume you are using a K3765?

3) Are you getting an error message? If so, what does it say and does it give an RAS error number?

4) What signal and signal strength are you getting?

5) Have you tried it on another computer? If so are you getting the same error?

With this info, it will help (hopefully) to resolve you problem.

Cheers

Hi ,

I follow the instructions to install but its shows an error 651: The modem has reported an error.

kindly advice.

thanks

Hi Kristin and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. We’re going to need a little bit more information though.

Is it safe to assume you are using the K3765?

What operating system are you running on your PC/Mac?

Has this ever worked ok or is this a first installation?

Have you tried restarting your computer and trying again?

Do you have chance to try this modem on another computer? (Perhaps a friend of family members?)

What light do you get on the modem?

Please let me know and we’ll be happy to help you further with this.

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Kristin.

I’m sorry to see you’re having issues with your Mobile Broadband.:(

If you’re getting error 651, this normally points to an issue with the modem, or modem drivers. The normal procedure would be to firstly reinstall the modem drivers and retry, but as you have already stated this SIM works okay on a different dongle, it looks more likely to be an actual hardware issue.

As you’re using Windows 7, I do suggest you firstly try and use the modem with the latest VMB (Vodafone Mobile Broadband) Software which is version 10.2. There is a copy of this directly available from the eForum here. Firstly remove your dongle, and fully uninstall the VMB software you’re now using. Only reinsert the dongle once the new software is installed.

If this fails to assist, then you are looking at a faulty modem, and possibly a repair.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards
