Vodafone K3765 Modem - Connection Issues With 32Bit Windows 7

I'm writing this hurriedly as I have managed to achieve over 3 minutes connection.

As the title suggests, I'm having major issues. Its a PAYG Huwaei K3765 dongle. I am running Windows 7 32Bit and using the 9.4.6 software. The VMC will ALWAYS connect and stay connected, however after 30 seconds to 3 minutes a yellow exclamation mark appears over the computer in the bottom right hand system tray. That, when hovered over, says no internet (which is correct!) but the VMC still says connected. I have to disconnect the VMC then reconnect to get my next 1 minutes browsing...

Any ideas please?

And yes, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, unistalled anything conflicted (there wasnt anything)...

Thanks.

Hi jimmybond007,

This definitely sounds like a frustrating issue, I'm confident that a solution can be found though :).

To be honest, this sounds like a conflict with the actual connection rather than the VMC software. As a first step, I'd try connecting by going to Start > Connect To > VMC to see if the same thing happens. If it works correctly then I'd advise you connect this way in future.

If the same thing happens then I'd recommend setting up a manual dial-up connection from scratch, which can be done as follows:

-Go to Start > Control Panel
-Load up Phone and Modem Options
-Click the Modems Tab (Fill in the location info if it asks)
-Highlight the Huwaei Modem and click Properties
-Click Change Settings and then click Advanced
-In the Extra Initialisation Command field type in: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","ppbundle.internet" (use pp.internet if you're on the old 1GB PAYG price plan)
-Press OK and then go back to the Control Panel
-Load up Network and Sharing Centre
-Create a new dial-up internet connection with the following settings:
-Name:Vodafone
-Phone number: *99#
-Username: web
-Password: web
-You'll be able to connect to this by going to Start > Connect To > Vodafone.

Give that a go and let me know how you get on :).

After clicking 'Available Mobile connections' it also brought up the option to connect to Vodafone GPRS. I have connected to that and, whilst practically unworkably slow, the connection remains. Therefore I assume this is ONLY a 3G problem in my area and no other work arounds are needed?

The only thing that put me off the scent is that it says 3G signal is very strong. I assume that basically means strong NOT stable...

I wonder it it's a power issue on the USB socket? 3G would use slightly more power and you could have a socket that does not give the full 500mA. Do you have a powered USB hub to try briefly?

That does sound like a feasible solution actually. I dont have a powered hub to try out though.

However, just returned from a location a mile away and there were no 'drops' at all so it must be a 3G stability issue. Strange as the signal is strong and that the VMC software remains 'connected'. Perhaps there are issues in my area right now.

Hi jimmybond007,

Thanks for posting, I'm pleased to hear you have at least been able to connect now :).

It's definitely possible that there could be a 3G issue in your area so I'd like to check this out for you. I've tried to check the postcode in your profile but it's not valid, would you be able to let me know your correct postcode please?
