Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Dongle Keeps Losing Connection

Hi,

I was wondering if someone here would be able to help........

I've had a Vodafone 3G Dongle for well over a year now and never had any issues. Just recently, I've had issues with the dongle dropping the connection when in the office. I have plenty of signal and I know there isn't anything blocking the signal in the building as other people around me are using the Vodafone dongles without any problems.
When the dongle drops its connection it still appears as being connected in the status window, but still no internet connection. When using the dongle at home and on the same laptop I don't seem to have this issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave,

It's possible that a local site issue can cause this kind of behaviour. Are you able to provide the full postcode of your office so we can check this for you?

It could be a modem fault, but I'd like to rule out any network-side issues first of all :)

The postcode is RG6 1RB.

Someone else that sits next to me is using his Vodafone 3G dongle at the moment and he hasn't had any problems.

Hi DaveP1,

I've had a look at your serving 3G cell, which is Site number 23407 and the statstics it is throwing back at me have me somewhat confused.

I've honestly never seen a site as busy at this one, and can't really tell if what I'm looking at is good or bad at the moment. I've asked for a second opinion from one of our engineer liasons, but they won't be able to respond until tomorrow now. I will follow this up for you.

Just as a note. I was using the dongle at home last night without any issues.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for not getting back to you. We've had a bit of a problem getting to the bottom of this. The stats for this site all seem to vanish towards the end of October, and it's unclear why.

If possible, can you go into Tools > Select Network, and switch down to Vodafone UK 2G?
Let us know if you're still getting the same issue when connected to 2G, and we'll be able to narrow it down to a 3G fault and take this further.

I've tried using 2G and it seems happy to keep my MSN window open but you still can't navigate to google or something like that.

I've even tried a different dongle (using the same SIM card) but this doesn't seem to be any better.

Aha! So, it's still saying connected, but you're getting "Page cannot be displayed" errors?

That would match a known issue which we have a fix for here.
If your modem model matches one of these, then that'll be the cause of the problem.

I trust this helps, and if you have a spare moment, please take some time to fill in a short survey about your forum experience today.
