Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Unable To Find / Connect To Network For Over A Week

Please help, I've had a Vodafone dongle since 27th august and was able to use for just 2 days before it suddenly loosing connection and not being able to find any network at all. Before I was able to connect to both GPRS and 3G, now nothing at all!! I've tried calling customer services and have been left on hold for so long that its getting to be costing a me a small fortune calling from my mobile phone (i don't have a land line). I was told to reboot by removing the sim while the device was still plugged in but nothing changed. I went into a Vodafone store and they said that the network may be down as others were complaining that same day, I've waited for over a week and I'm not happy having a device which is completely unusable and being stuck in a contract with it!!!! I use the internet for my home business at its causing me no end of problems. Can someone please contact me and help. :excl: :excl:

Hi John.R,

That certainly does sound strange. Can you try the clean-boot anyway for me?

Jon,

Did as you requested, i did the clean boot and after a reboot i removed all instances of the modem dongle and gave my laptop a second reboot. After THAT reboot i inserted the dongle and let it do it's install. Watching the process my laptop recognised the dongle as the modem, then shortly after it came up with the usual nofication that there was a problem with my hardward and that it might not function properly. I've seen this a few times but continued anyway, loaded the VMC software, tried to connect to the network after it discovered the Vodafone 3G network, but then i get the 633 error message.

So again no joy. I've reset the clean boot process to normal.

Thanks John,

Does Windows give you any indication of which particular component it's referring to when the notification comes up? I think this is probably the key to the problem, but still very odd that there are no warnings or errors showing up in Device Manager.

Can you also click on Start > Run, and run "msinfo32" with the modem plugged in for me? Export the results to a text file and upload it here and I'll get my contact to have a look.

Thanks for the logs - these have been helpful.

We now know that your computer appears to be mistaking our Micro SD Card slot for a DiBcom DIB9080 TV Tuner.

Please have a look for this in Device Manager (probably under Sound, Video and Games Controllers), right click and disable. Then re-test the connection.

If this works, right-click the TV Tuner device, and select "Update Driver". Choose "No, not this time" then "Install from a list or specific location", and finally "Don't search, I will choose the drivers to install". It should then report a match for "USB Mass Storage Device", which you should select and install.

We've also found similar reports of this issue with other HUAWEI devices (not just ours) on other forums, such as here, which might have more useful troubleshooting for you.

There's also a suggestion on the Huawei website that suggests moving or renaming the below .inf file may resolve the issue:
C:\windows\system32\mod7700.sys and oem30.inf in the C:\windows\inf directory

Let me know if any of these resolve the issue.

Hi Sarah Poh,

I have to admit, this is waaaay beyond my training and knowledge

As we're not Microsoft trained, I would feel uncomfortable providing advise at this stage of your PC issue - I'll send Jon an email to have a look at it as he's knowledgeable on the subject. Please remember that Windows advice will be advice, and will be at your own risk to follow, so backup just in case!

Keep us updated with any details!
