Vodafone Mobile Broadband - Vodafone VTP is not Windows 7 compatible

Dundy
Not applicable
Dear All,

I've spent two days trying to set up Vodafone Mobile Broadband via the Phone (VTP) on my Windows 7 x64 but it's for sure now that it's not Windows 7 compatible.

Works fine on my other computer using Windows XP. I have tried setting of VTP executable in WinXP and Vista compatible modes, I have tried running them as administrator but nothing helps.

VTP starts, detects my BlackBerry 9500, shows 3G coverage + level or reception but when I click on connect, then it tells me that Vodafone Connector Service is not running and tells me the reboot. Of course, I can see that Vodafone Connector Service IS running.

It's a big shame as Windows 7 is very quickly becoming as popular as Windows XP and will be probably more widely used than any other Windows versions.

Does anyone know when Vodafone plans to update this software and make it Windows 7 compatible?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there Dundy, and welcome to the eForum! :P

I've raised this to one of our top tech specialists, and he really wants to know what version of VTP you're using. Have you tried the latest version available here? Please uninstall the previous version, reboot, and install this one.

Failing this, can you check your Services.msc (from your Run prompt) and make sure Network Connections, Telephony and Remote Access Connections Manager are enabled.

Let us know about this, and we'll get back to you!

Dear Daz,

Thanks for the welcome and for the quick reply. :)

Yes, I am using the same, most recent, version of VTP that you had sent me the link to.

I have started Services.msc and Network Connections, Telephony are enabled/running. About Remote Access Connections Manager I was hesitating for a while as I am using the Hungarian version of Windows and it's translated into Hungarian but I could still find it, however, there were a few similar ones. All three that you mentioned are enabled.

What else should I check for you? Is this running for anyone using Windows 7 x64? Like I said, works fine on another computer running WinXP on it. However, I much prefer Windows 7.

I do appreciate your helpfulness and your and your IT team's time.

Best regards
Dundy

Hi Dundy.

I've just had a chat with our device specialist about this issue. Our 64 bit version of Windows 7 its works fine, the Vodafone connector service is installed and running fine so hmm unsure why yours isn't.

We have had reports of malicious software/local permissions and 3rd party software stopping this service from running so it may be related to the current PC build.

It may be worth trying to install VMC 9.4.6 from our website and installing this first, then trying to install the VTP however we suspect that 9.4.6 may roll back if this is the case then we would need some info to raise a case:

If you can try the above and if this doesn’t work reply back I will send you and email and if you could then attach this info to that email we can raise this for you :)

Thanks

Hi,

I've done everything the way you asked me to:

- uninstalled VTP
- installed VMC 9.4.6
- installed VTP

Symptoms are the same: VTP detect the blackberry, shows reception and 3G availability, shows Vodafone as service providor, BUT when I click on connect, it says that VodafoneConnectorService is not running - which again is not true, it's there in the list of running tasks.

And here are the details you've asked for:

Windows 7 x64 bit - SP1 is not yet installed, will be available in my language only late

I am using the following notebook: Hewlet Packard HDX-18 1200EO

Specifications of this notebook:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...product=3927429

I will try to attached the MSINFO32 log, however, I must apologize but this will be in Hungarian, however, I hope that you and your colleagues will be able to see the important parts. If this would help I can try switch my Windows to English and re-send the report. I know you can change system language in Windows 7 but I have never tried it, not sure how much it would affect system stability.

Feel free to e-mail me at my registered address.

Thanks so much for your time spent helping me!

Best regards,
Dundy

Hi Dundy,

I've encountered problems before with our drivers being language-specific, so it's entirely possible that the Hungarian installation is what's causing the issue.

Please switch to English and re-test for us. If you still have the issue, the English logs would be much more useful too :)

Hi,

Switched to English, rebooted, VTP still has the same problem. Attaching the log file in English now. Now, I am uninstalling VTP and VMC, then will reinstall VTP to see if the English language makes any changes - however, I don't think it should, as VTP automatically started in Hungarian language.

Will revert shortly after resintalling VTP and will attach a new log just to see if you see any difference.

ps: the "Standard Modem over Bluetooth link" always has an exclamation mark next to it, however, don't think it should affect using BlackBerry via USB cable.

Thanks a lot,
Dundy

Now having Windows 7 x64 in English, I have uninstalled VTP + VMC, rebooted, reinstalled VTP, rebooted but the problem remains the same unfortunately.

Generated a new logfile in case you see any difference.

ps: for some reason I cannot log into the forum, doesn't accept my password - which my Firefox saved at the begining, that's why I can reply to you - and when I ask for a PW reminder, it tells me Dundy as a username doesn't exist. Any idea why this is happening? Wanted to change to IE as in FF the forums message editor doesn't let me erease quotes (just with great struggling) but I can't log on with IE. This is the smallest problem, I'm focused on getting VTP to work.

Thanks,
Dundy

Attaching 2 screenshots both showing Task Manager, so that you can see that VodafoneConnectorService is running:

In the first picture, VTP detects the phone, all ready to connect.

In the second picture you can see what happens when I click on Connect - note that VodafoneConnectorService is still running. Let me add that I have tried WinXP SP2-3 and Vista compatibility modes for both VodafoneLauncher.exe and VodafoneConnectorService.exe but it still wouldn't work even after rebooting to make sure that V.C.S. gets loaded in compatibiltiy mode.

Hi Dundy,

Thanks for this info, Ive passed it over to our device specialist to have a look into this for you.

one thing we do ask is that can you get a screen shot of device manager whilst the blackberry is plugged in with modem, network adapter, and port headings expanded?

Thanks
