Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC) - Can I Install VMC on D: Drive?

I need to install the VMC Lite for K3565 on the 😧 drive. About 90KB seems to be needed, and I can find no option in the install routine to select a drive for the installation. Is there a way to do this?

My Asus EEC901 netbook has a small C: drive with just 4GB. All inessential programs, including the Temp space, are now on the much bigger 😧 The XP SP3 installation with its constant updates and fixes fills the C: drive to overflowing.

To use the VMC I have to re-install it for each session, which I presume makes temporary use of space on the USB stick. After a few minutes the VMC interface disappears, although the function continues, so there is no way to use it to disconnect. All very tedious, and simply because there is no option to install on a drive different from C:

It was properly installed on C: some weeks ago, but I uninstalled it (temporarily I thought), so as to make room for a program that also insisted on using C:

Hi Roger1UK,

Unfortunately it is not possible to select an installation drive when using the built-in VMC Lite software.

As a workaround to this, I would recommend downloading and installing the full version of Vodafone Mobile Connect from here.
This will allow you to select a specific drive - although it is considerably larger than it's Lite counterpart. It might therefore depend on how big the capacity of your 😧 drive is. I'm assuming it's a large SD card of some sort?

Thanks Jon
I tried to install VMC 9.4.6 and when it failed, 9.4.2. The setup wizards offered a Custom option to select a drive and folder for the installation, and both failed when they found no space on the C: drive.

Even after you have specified installation on 😧 they allocate files to both drives. 9.4.2 requires 105MB on C: and 61MB on 😧

The capacity of my C: drive is 4GB; 😧 is 8GB with 2.46GB currently free.

Hi Roger1UK

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems with this. When you say 9.4.6 failed, what was the reason? Did you get an error message?

Its strange that it allocates files on both sets of drives. I'm not entirely sure as to why this happens I'll be honest. Once installed can you find the files in question and delete the ones on the C: Drive? Does the program continue to function ?

Please let me know and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Hi Wayne

Setup failed to complete. After I specify the drive I want, D:, it shows a table with two rows, one for each of the two integral drives. For each drive it gives the space available and the space needed to install VMC.

Version 9.4.6. needs 87MB on C: and 66MB on D:, which is less than 9.4.4 All the same, I haven't got it on C: where Windows messages inviting me run Disk Cleanup intrude every few minutes.

Unfortunately I checked Uninstall Programs before trying to replace Lite with the full version, and I uninstalled the Lite I found there. It was not on the Start menu and must have remained from the original installation from the K3565 USB stick.

So until yesterday I could connect by running Setup from the K3565 which was a slow process but presumably used the files I have now uninstalled. Now there's no connection.

You might be able to setup a manual dialup connection. I know the required settings have been
given in various topics on the forum.

If you do that you lose the features of VMC to receive/send texts and usage monitoring for
what that's worth.

It's possible to use hyperterm to receive/send texts and modem logging can be enabled to get
session usage.

Hi Roger1UK

I'm sorry to hear that this STILL isn't working. This is a very difficult position to work in. I feel the best way around this would be to use bacupian's suggestion here and set up a manual connection.

The details you should need are :-

Initialization string - at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
Dial up Number - *99#
Username - web
password - web

Please give this a go and let me know how you get on. If you have any further questions just give me a holla! :)

Thanks

Thanks Wayne for giving this a shot.

After my last post I tried once again with the original Lite from the K3565. It does after all give an option to use an alternative drive when it finds C: to be full. However as always the setup wizard failed to complete. Maybe it's to do with registration as a Windows program.

BUT - I discovered the .EXE program tucked away in a folder named BIN. Setup had done something useful after all. VMC launched from this, and it was the work of a moment to put a shortcut on the desktop.

I now have a workaround
