Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC) - Support For Windows 7?

Does anybody have any idea when software and drivers will be available for Windows 7 (perhaps an administrator?) because after 22nd October I and many others will no longer be able to use this service. So far the support for this has been lamentable!

Works on my machine (tm).

I've been running Vista 64bit RTM for over a month, using v9.4.3 with no problems on my internal Dell 5530. What I didn't do was rely on the drivers distributed with VMC, preferring to manually extract them from the driver MSI that dell provides and load them manually. And if you do that you don't even need VMC, you can just configure your own dial up networking connection

Hi geoffreyc

Thanks for your post here and its a very good question. As soon as Windows 7 is released fully I'm sure we'll know alot more about the situation but there should be no reason why your modem does not work on your computer even after the Windows 7 upgrade.

If your internet connection is absolutely vital to your then I would suggest not upgrading to Windows 7 until we know exactly how this release will affect the use of the VMC software.

Thanks

I have now been running Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) 32 bit for several months on two of my laptops. The only problems, thus far, is the current version of VMC (9.3.6) refuses to shut-down on exit; it remains running minimised in the sys tray. While this is not a “show stopper” it is undesirable and needs fixing.

I’m extremely surprised that a major organisation such as Vodafone appears to be totally nonchalant with regard to supporting Windows 7 (both 32 and 64 Bit versions) considering there is only 3 days to go before public release. It is widely purported in industry that this update of the Windows operating system will have an uptake that surpasses all previous revisions/editions.

Come on Vodafone please wake up, “smell the coffee” and stop coming out with phrases like I feel confident our engineers will have something in place at release!! Vodafone should have addressed major issues like these well before hand and now be in a position to inform their customers accordingly.

Hi all,

You'll be pleased to know that for the last two years we've been working closely with Microsoft on a project called "Just Works", learning important lessons from the problems we encountered after Vista launched.

This project has been conducted with the sole aim of ensuring our devices work flawlessly with Windows 7, and I'm pleased to say that we've been able to test with multiple systems and get a 99% success rate in terms of being able to plug-in and connect, first time, everytime.

This will be delivered in the form of a new version of Vodafone Mobile Connect, close to the Windows 7 launch date, and I'm confident that you'll be pleased with the results :)

In the meantime, we cannot support the evaluation copies of Windows 7, so please be patient, and we'll have more updates closer to the day :)

While I was testing the RC I ran into a ton of installation issues with the VMC software so I switched it to the manufacturers software. I suggest giving it a shot as it's awesome. Very slimmed down and works perfectly.

Hello,

I have reverted back to Dell Mobile broadband software until Vodafone release a Windows 7 version of VMC. Windows 7 has only been 3 years in the making and has around 8500 certified applications thus far, pity the mighty Vodafone with their VMC is not one of them, but then again perhaps they did not know about Windows 7 before last week!!!

Voda, please just for once can you be "ahead" of the game??? AGAIN PLEASE
