Vodafone Red+ Leader - Data Sharing

Hi all,

I recently bought an Ipad and was looking at ways of sharing my data (have 20gb on main contract). This contract has the "red+ leader" feature (can see on "my plan and extras"), but I have been unable to add a second device. The Vodafone support site says:

"Vodafone Red+ is available only to Pay monthly customers who bought a Red or Red Value Bundle between 5 May 2016 and 11 April 2017.

It lets a Leader share their data allowance with up to nine people or devices – known as the Red+ group. The Leader can set individual data limits and manage the data allowances of all the Sharers in the group.

If you’re the Leader, we’ll let you know when your group is nearing your data allowance, and again when it’s been used up. At that point we’ll stop the group’s data usage, so you’re in control of your costs and will avoid unexpected charges on your bill.

To get Red+ you’ll need a qualifying bundle with at least 1GB of data in order to share your allowance. Next, decide which devices or people you’d like to share your data with. Lastly, pop in to your nearest Vodafone store, start a Live Chat online, or call 191, free from your Vodafone mobile. We’ll set you up in no time."

Following the advice I went on Live Chat and the advisor said 'no problem if you call 191 they will add a sim for you', I called and they said 'no sorry we don't offer that any more'. Surely if I have the feature on my qualifying bundle there is a way of doing this? I feel like there is a way around this but the staff don't know how to do it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @kpnealon, thanks for posting.

Any lines added to your account after 11 April 2017 wouldn't be able to be added to your Red+ group. However, we do offer the option of a data-only SIM that could be used for your iPad.

I'm not able to advise on the specific question you ask, but would you be able to get around the difficulty by using your present phone as a hotspot? This wouldn't enable you to assign a specific amount of data to the iPad, but if you bought your Pay monthly bundle after 5 May 2016, you would be able to switch on the UK data cap on your account - see http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/costs/data-charges/index.htm

Obviously you would have to monitor your overall data usage carefully, but you can do this via your account, and also use a data monitor for the iPad.
