Solution

Hello everyone!
Yes this is the same issue as this thread: https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Android/Smart-N8-muted-by-default/m-p/2565674#M137569
And a solution posted in that thread indeed works, however the 'solution' is not acceptable. The solution to fixing the issue of my voice being muted during calls (I can hear the caller, they cannot hear me), is to remove the 'Google' apps permission to use the microphone.
This of course removes a lot of functionality on an android ('OK Google' voice commands, google voice-to-text, etc).
I am hoping that there is another solution to this problem, because I cannot deal with having to deny microphone persmission to the Google App.
Thanks.

@Madin You can complete a factory reset which will restore your phone to its factory settings - however you'd need to make a note of any saved passwords and ensure your content has been backed up before doing this.
Our advisers in store will also be happy to assess your phone and take a closer look into why this may be happening, and arrange for a repair if needed.

Thanks for your reply!
The factory reset did not make a difference!
