iPad 3G Plan & Wifi

Is a standard WIFI service (e.g. BT Openzone) included with the iPad 3G plans (£10, £15 or £25)? On the apple web site (comparison table) it seems to suggest so but I cannot find any information on the vodafone pages (www.vodafone.co.uk/ipad). If yes, can you confirm the details of the provider, usage restrictions and roaming charges. Thanks

I'm pretty certain my welcome pack said BT Openzone wifi is bundled. I'll double check when I get home.

I have tested Vofafone iPad and the bottom line is that it is not possible to use the Wifi service. To register for Wifi or an online account with Vodafone you need to be able to receive an SMS message on the device. The iPad cannot receive the SMS and therefore it is not possible to use the service. As I said in my previous message I believe that Vodafone is misleading potential clients. On a related note I have now tested both o2 and Vodafone on my iPad and I haven't noticed any difference in terms of coverage. I will soon revert back to o2 as they offer BT Openzone (unlimited) and full management of the account online (it is not possible to manage the account from the iPad with Vodafone).

My welcome letter has a bar down the right hand side. It reads:

Your mobile account number

Your bill account number

Your price plan
apple iPad 1gb mobile broadband. you have 1gb to use every month in the uk

Monthly cost
£10 per month

You joined Vodafone on
30th June 2010

Your extras
1GB BT OPENZONE WiFi (Free)

One of the admin guys kindly set up a BT Openzone account for me after Holly replied to my post on here by email.

So no one is misleading anyone :)

Wow - this is awful service.

I'm hoping to have my iPad 3G delivered today, and I ordered a Vodafone sim with it, because I wanted to go with your 3G service and free WiFi.

But it seems that the WiFi portion of the service has been completely overlooked... no details on your web site, no proper procedure to set it up and very little knowledge about it from support staff. Seems that one hand really doesn't know what the other is doing at Vodafone!

The problem I have is that even if I do get my account set up, am I going to have to call up support on a paid-for number every time I want to make a change? And will support actually know what I'm talking about?

Doesn't fill me with confidence at all. I might just go with O2 or Orange and avoid the hassle.

Hi there afterimage,

Fantastic news that you're joining Vodafone. Now your here, check out our way of saying thanks - VIP - with your chance to win tickets to some of the best events around, on the best network around ;)

If you sign up for My Account then all you need to do is enter your MyAccount login details when you're near a hotspot and you'll be up and running in no time at all.

Let me know if there's anything else we can help with, and thanks for choosing Vodafone.

Have a fab weekend,

Thanks for your reply Lee - I actually got my Vodafone SIM activated this afternoon!

I will sign up for My Account, but I seem to need a Vodafone mobile number though - which I don't have, since the iPad 3G account is the only one I have with you.

Is there any other way of registering for an account?
