Hi,
I am having a lot of stress on what I thought should be relatively straightforward issue.
I bought and sold an iphone, the friend who I sold it to cant use it due it to being locked to vodafone. He is in another part of the country now over 400 miles away and is trying to get his 3 SIM card to work in it.
I filled out the unlock form which went to the nuc team and was rejected as they said they werent authorised to unlock it.
I called customer services who then tried 3 times to get a response from the NUC team and were advised to tell me to go straight to Apple and ask them to unlock it!
I spoke to Apple who seemed amazed that I was talking to them, they checked the phone and said it was locked to vodafone and that they would need to unlock it.
I would then have to go back to vodafone and ask them to unlock it, I spoke to an advisor again at vodafone who advised that as the phone was under 30 days old that it couldnt be unlocked, as it was policy.
I then received another text 5 minutes after hanging up saying that that information was incorrect and it was actually 3 months before I could get the phone unlocked.
I now have to go back to my friend and tell him that vodafone cant help me. Looking at the forums, people seemed to be getting unlocked a few days after buying their phones so what is going on here? Is the policy 90 days, 30 days or does it depend on who you speak to?
Thanks
Kevin

Vodafone can only unlock phones for customers who have made clear payments in the last three months or in the case of a new customer, the first three months of taking out a new contract.
I imagine this would be to prevent fraud in the second hand phone market and due to the network heavily subsidising the initial price of the phone.
There is also an unlocking charge of £19.99 during the first 12 months of starting the contract. Further info below.

Thanks Ann,
It took nearly 6-7 hours of being on the phone and chat with Vodafone for one agent to indicate that its policy is not to unlock until the 3 months have passed. If I'd have known this, I would have bought elsewhere.
What a nightmare this has been, an utter waste of my time, the whole process has cost me time, a friend, and nearly £200 in lost fees. As I'll have to take the phone back, pay for his shipping and wont be able to sell it for another 2 months.
Thanks Vodafone for being 'Simply Brilliant' Power to you....
