stolen Iphone

My iphone was stolen. I'm on a sim only contract with vodafone. I bought the phone direct from Apple.  The local store says they cannot block the phone with the IMEI number as I did not buy it from them, is that correct?

When I spoke to customer services they said they would block it- now I'm worried that they may block my replacement phone, which I also bought direct from Apple.

I don't want the sim blocked as that was not in the phone when stolen (still using that)

thanks wjh

You can sign into your Apple ID at www.icloud.com. Then go to find my Phone.

There you can either track the phone or opt to sent it a message or as a last resort wipe the phone and that will also block the IMEI. It will not block any replacement phone. you can identify which phone you are blocking by the name you gave it as that will show in your list of devices.

If you are planning to make a claim for the lost phone you may run into some problems as most insirance companies need proof that the sim card on your accounts was in the phone at the time it was stolen.

You don't need to involve Vodafone if you have the SIM from the phone, if you do it will be the SIM that they will block and you won't be asble to use it in another phone. You can try to find the stolen one through Apple from the IMEI number but unless you have installed an App such as 'find my phone' on it you may not be able to. Your best course of action failing all else would be to claim for the phone under your house insurance, that's if it is covered, you'd need to ask your insurance Company/broker about that. Anyone using the stolen phone would not link back to you unless your contact list was stored on the SD card, if you had one in it.

I have involved vodafone because my insurers insisted- I had to get proof they had blocked the phone - this vodafone shop said they could not do as I did not buy from them- is that correct ie tehy cannot block with only an IMEI number if not bought from them nd only on sim only contract?

the sim card wasn't in the phone- i was selling it but was scammed, no phone & no cash now.

So my worry is that vodafone may block my new phone that I bought from apple & using my sim only contract from vodafone

May I ask what way you sold it ?

If eBay then raise a dispute.

If the imei number is on their systems then they should be able to blacklist it.

If your unsure of the imei number its on the retail box and on the receipt that would have been given to you at the time of purchase or emailed to you.

I would re contact Vodafone and speak to another agent to enquire again.

Act fast if you want to try and use the findmyiphone and its features such as wiping it and sending it a message before the taker either turns it off or removes the SIM card.

If you had 'send last location' then at least you'll know that info.

To add to froggerty 's excellent advice.

If you dont have Home Contents fover then some Bank Accounts provide cover as a perk of the account.

T&C and excess fee's apply.

As the poster has already said, the SIM card is in his / her possession as it was not in the phone.

will they have my imei number if I have not given it to them? I did not buy the phone on a contract but direct from Apple
