I have a vss v1 ... had it for ages and from time to time it has stopped working but generally managed to get it going.
This time it seems to have stopped for ages .. just the power light 1 is on and we recently re-registered the device to get it working
Serial Number * 21224314555 Status active
Location Postcode SM2 XXX Date of registration 25/06/2015 16:37:45
Have tried a hard reset of the vss a few times but to no avail
Now we have had the device for years and never had to set up any port forwarding in the virgin router .. DO I REALLY HAVE TO ? I thought these things were idiot proof 😞
Seem to remember one vodafone tech person telling me to change the wireless channel on the router .. is that right ?
Can someone resync the device remotely and provide some help here ?
We have 3 vodafone accounts and pay ~£100 per month and cant use the phones at home !
Solved! Go to best answer.

Hi citrus,
Your power supply is heavily under rated.
The rating of the power supply has to be at least 12Volts @1.5 Amps 18va .to function correctly.
Your unit 500 m/a = .5 Amp 6va
so it can only provide a third of the required power.
Saying that, because it managed to reach the 4th. light, it proves that it is the power supply at fault.
Off to Amazon or Ebay for you!! :smileywink:
Just search in either site for 'Sure Signal power supply'.

Mike.

Hi citrus,
That does sound optimistic, at least the light pattern has changed.
But this 'cycling' effect that you now have is yet another symptom of lack of power!
What is the rating of your new power source?
Regards,
Mike.
P.S. After I posted this message, your new post appeared!!
A solid No.2 light means it has connected to the internet. So, Yes, leave it alone overnight to do it's stuff!

3am
lights 1 and 2 on solidily ... light 4 blinking
4am
light 1 on solidily
430am

(note the power supply is 12v 500ma 6va)

Hi Mark,
The cavalry are too late ...our previous correspondant (the excellent cineriv) spotted the issue straightaway .. dodgy transformer ... found another charger 1.2 mA and the device is now working within 5mins of being plugged in !!!
I have to say 8 hours fannying about with this and that ... opening routes on the hub .. running tracert's etc etc ...what a waste of time.
Can I suggest that the troubleshooting guide for v1 boxes is CHANGE THE POWER SUPPLY !!
Would have save me a lot of noise.... grrrr

Hi citrus,
It seems like we got there in the end! :smileyhappy:
But, please obtain a new power unit as soon as possible ... we don't know the integrity of the one you are using, for £10, it's worth it!
I guess you mean 1.2 Amp not 1.2 mA for your current power supply !!??
Finally, I'm not a fan of opening all of these ports, if the Sure Signal has worked on your router in the past, it doesn't need any additional ports opened unless your router has had a recent update, but even then I think it's unlikely. I would suggest that you progressively close the ports that you have opened, just do a few at a time so it will be easy to reinstate them if necessary, otherwise the security of your router could be compromised. (it's similar as you going away from home and leaving your front door open!!) :smileyfrustrated:
Regards.

Hi Sarah, The ports that are opened I can see .. but the ip addresses
IP addresses to be allowed on the router & firewall
is that missing a set of number ? xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ?
also i am a virgin users so would this be in ipfilter part of the router set up ?
Cheers
Chris
