Like others I have tried 3 vodafone data only sims & got nowhere. I found a thread dated Nov that talked about going into internet settings on my nexus 7 but I cannot find those little alone change them. Where does one go for internet settings. The Vodafone shop could not do either and thought tablet faulty, but have been back John lewis and tried new tablet with all 3 sims to no avail. In my settings there are wireless, Bluetooth and data usage only

I saw your nov posts but couldn't deal with them remotely-now at home-changed settings-on nexus  as per your november posts-like that recipient I needed the second set of settings & now have 3 g access-hooray-the process has only taken 2 trips to vodafone shop, 1 trip back to John Lewis & 10days.

It was a 3G enabled google nexus -chosen especially to try to make sure I could access emails whilst away irrespective of "free wifi" . My biggest success was a wifi hot spot "donated" by a fellow crew member.

I will be showing the posts to my local vodafone shop as they could not get it going-but were otherwise obliging!

Hi christinesharon,

Do you have a phone you can pop one of those SIMs into to make sure they can connect to the internet?

We might need to do a little digging on this one though.

Hi,

If your sim is activated you can just text WEB to 40127 and the settings will be sent to yoru handset.

You can tell if your sim is active as you'll get a signal displayed on the phone and will be able to receive calls. You'll probably be able to make them too, but you'd need credit to be able to do so.

To manually set up your Vodafone data connection settings on your nexus 7 you need to:

1) Tap settings (if you don't have this on your home screen tap the grid icon at the center bottom of your screen, then click settings (looks like a cog)

2) Tap on "mobile data"

3) Tap on access point names

This brings up a list of access poin name profiles. Tap the menu option in the top right hand corner of the screen, tap on New APN.

Fill out the following settings:

Name – Vodafone Prepay

APN – pp.vodafone.co.uk

Proxy - 212.183.137.012

Port – 8799

Username – wap

Password - wap

MMSC – http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

MMS PROXY - 212.183.137.012

MMS Port - 8799

MCC - 234

MNC - 15

Authentication type - None

APN type - default, supl, mms

APN - enabled

Tap the back button

Make sure the blue dot is next to Vodafone Prepay.

Tap back twice

If there's an off switch next to mobile data tap it to turn it on.

If that doesn't work it's probably not your settings, and soemthing selse that's causing your problem (sim not activated, no credit etc).

It's worth keeping your mobile data switched off until you actually need it. This is because apps run in the background on smart phones and use data without you knowing about it.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Cheers

HC

Right,

I was just looking at the Nexus 7 specs here http://www.google.co.uk/nexus/7/specs/

In the conenctivity section of this page there's a lot of "mobile data version only" text. This implies that there are 2 versions of the nexus 7, one that you can put a sim in to use mobile data services and one that's wifi only.

If you have a look here:

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_7_16GB?id=nexus_7_16gb&hl=en

In the "Choose another nexus 7" section you can see there are 3 other nexus 7s. Only one has 3G capabilities and the others are Wifi only. So I guess the fist question is:

How much memory does your nexus 7 have?

and the second question is

How much did you pay for it?

And, being really optimistic here

Are there any part or model numbers on your nexus 7?

The reason I'm asking all this is because I suspect you have the WiFi only version. this would explain why you're lacking mobile data settings, but have WiFi settings (they're usually in the same menu).

Mind you... if you have the wifi only version there probably won't be a slot to put the sim card into.
