Yes, that's the fibre. No, I'd advise you not to pull that virgin coax out as it's the property of virgin media and removing it could leave you with a rather hefty fine for interfering with their infrastructure.

The box that you can see contains both the ONT and the entry point.  The front cover of the outer box will pop off - though as it's been fitted sideways the ethernet port for your router will be on your left!
