Home phones

I was with BT and recently was changed to VOIP for the phones using the fibre connection. At this point the copper line coming into the house and the copper wiring in the house linking the BT sockets was redundant.

I have now changed to Vodafone and was faced with the problem of connecting home phones to the Vodafone hub.  I did not want a phone in the hall where the hub has to be

located.

I solved this by using the BT sockets as an extension lead throughout the house.  That is I plugged  a  cable from the Vodafone hub telephone socket into a BT socket.  Then every other BT socket in the house had a live phone signal.  Then all my old phones worked by using a BT  socket elsewhere.  All the phones have their own power supply - I don’t think it would work with non  powered phones as there  is obviously no voltage from the exchange.

I did have to disconnect the copper wire coming into the house - a simple snap connector in the master socket.

I think it would work as you should be able to run any BT type phones from the TEL sockets. Presumably the ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter) in the router supplies any necessary power.

Good post though, could be very helpful for others wanting to run their phones away from the router.
