ASUS Zen Wifi XT8 - Setting up for Gigafast

Greatoldone
4: Newbie

All,

I've just returned my Eero Pros to Amazon, and setup an Zen wifi in it's place, ready for Gigafast. With that in mind, I'm asking for a quick sanity check here - I need to get my PPPoE credentials (userid & password) plus the VLAN tag being used in my area from support. Anything else?

Also - is there a special support line number to get these? Or is it a case or ringing the normal CS line and requesting to be put through to level 2 support? Is there a way I can get them online?

My install is on Wednesday, so I'd like to have them on hand so I can plug them into the router there and then (it's already up and running on my soon to be redundant virgin cable line).

PPPoE details go here I guess:

PPPoE_1.png

And then I believe the VLAN tag goes here:

PPPoE_2.png

Is that right?

Thanks,

Jason

Install all done, nice and neat - the engineers did a great job. As soon as they'd left, I disconnected the old Virgin media modem replacing it's lead to the ASUS WAN port with the cable from the Vodafone ONT, edited the details and boom! Straight on, no messing about.

To note for others - Yes, you need the @broadband.vodafone.co.uk on the end of the username (if the CS agent forgets to give it to you). And the VLAN ID 911 was correct for me.

Everything that you need to do, in order to get your router connected will work with the stock firmware - get it up and running before you switch to custom firmware!

Unfortunatly you are not going to be able to use the ASUS Router app for first time set up, if (and only if) you find you need to set the VLAN ID!

Most of the following should all be in the quickstart guide that came with the router!  Once you've connected to the router using either a cable or over it's initially open WiFi, you should be able to access the WEBUI (even it it's not connected to the internet) using the address HTTP://router.asus.com (admins that is a local redirect burnt into the router firmware), or by accessing HTTP://192.168.50.1

Following the set up wizard - remembering to add @broadband.vodafone.co.uk to the end of the service username - may be all you need to do.  If you've done that and it doesn't connect then within the WEBUI you'll need to set the VLAN ID to 911.  You'll find this in the WEBUI > LAN (lhs menu) > IPTV (submenu tab): Select ISP Profile> Manual setting

There is a screen capture of this towards the beginning of this thread.

That should be all you need to do in order to use the Asus XT8 instead of the Vodafone router - remembering that you will lose any landline phone capability!

hello fellow northamptonian , I am struggling with getting my router connected its a D-Link DIR-2660.

i assume if your VLAN ID is 911 then I will have the same although, i have VLAN ID for internet , IPTV and VOIP which is confusing me.

Any idea on which settings i should put for which

I have a netgear D7000 a little different to yours but setup should be similar.

Make sure both interfaces are enable internet and IPTV.

On the internet setup page enter your Vodafone login details using PPPoE and set the vlanid to 911 and priority to 0.

on the IPTV page use vlanid 911 priority 0 and set it to no login.

Should connect.

This got me connected took me ages to work it out hope it works for you.
