Firmware version for THG3000 router/Router crashing?

Hi,

So, 2 months ago my landlord switched the broadband over to Vodafone FTTP (previous Virgin Media) and we've got the THG3000 router.

As the rent is 'all inclusive' the connection is in his name even though he doesn't live on premises.

We're finding though that the router itself is unstable - tends to keep crashing and rebooting at least twice a day.  He's asked me to 'look into it' because I'm vaguely technical and know my way around the GUI admin portal for the router.

I wanted to check if it's got the latest firmware - it's currently showing 19.4.0551-3261143 but whenever I try and get the router to check I get an error saying it was unable to complete the check and try again later.

I've done a factory reset and there's been no change (still wont complete the check).

From reading around - it looks like the router doesn't have a 'modem only' mode which is how we setup the Virgin connection and then had our own Netgear Orbi router setup on that.

I think, because this is FTTP and there's the Openreach modem, I should be able to plug the Orbi router directly into that and completely remove the Vodafone router - but when I try that it asked for a PPPoE username and password and there's nothing in the Vodafone router admin portal that references that.

So, 2 questions:

1) Is firmware 19.4.0551-3261143 the latest version?  Is that fact that it wont complete the check a good indication that this is a faulty router or just that it's currently on the latest version so that's why it wont update?

2) Is there a secret PPPoE username and password and can I (or more probably my landlord) get those details.  If my landlord has to get that, what's the easiest way for him to request that because if it's hanging around on hold for more than a few minutes, he's not going to want to do that.

#1. If you can, post the full firmware string from the router's status pages. Manual update from the menu has never worked.

#2. You need account access to contact vodafone to get your PPPoE details. Other ISPs are more open, Vodafone is paranoid about security.

Here's the full Firmware details:

Yes you have the latest version of the THG3000 router firmware.

The router itself has been around for a while, and is usually quite stable.

Vodafone will give your landlord a PPPoE username and password on request, easiest way is to use live chat.

Make sure it is copy and pasted from the chat session, as it has got some easily confused characters.

If your landlord could give you account access permissions it would be easier,
