Help with ASUS RT-AX 86S not connecting to ultrahub

Hi...I'm freaking out here.

I am trying to link my Asus router in Access Mode to the Ultrahub. I also have a phone line so they both need to be connected.

I have tried the ethernet from ONT to the Asus - nothing happens and Have connected both together - ONT to Ultrahub LAN and Ultrahub WAN to ASUS LAN and again nothing. It's impossible to get to the ASUS GUI as It won't connect to the internet.

I actullay had this set up recently without any issues (had to do nothing) and have also reset the Asus to factory settings via reset button and did the set up as described in the manual (which i didn't even read before...Please help is you can - TIA :Winking_smiley:

OK - Success - Now in AP mode. I can get the GUI via the Asus app on my iPhone but not on th ePC - is that normal. Do I have to change settings now before testing?

That's normal. My mind may be a little dust but you should be able to get into the Asus gui so long as you're connected to the Asus. The ip range will have changed to match the Vodafone router so you should be able to find the ip by logging into the VF router (192.168.1.1) from any connection

Hi..Spot on with that - Got both GUI's on PC now thanks. So anymore settings to change before I start test gaming...?

I have noticed that my PS4 speedtest for the PSN connection is a little better with the Asus in router mode rather than AP and that's for Ethernet and Wifi as well.

There's nothing else to change. You'll find the less you mess with the Asus the less it messes with you. Merely changing a setting then changing it back can mess things up.

Okydoke - Received and understood. So I'll play a few games tonight then I take it the next and last check is the ONT straight to the Asus and remaove the VF altogether and done like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr1qgwL6p1I  ?

Yep. For router mode it would be better to use the instructions on this forum, that video has errors.

OK great - I'll see how things go with AP mode and update soon - Thanks again - really appreciated :Winking_smiley:

Hi. Played again last night for a few hours and around generally same times as I'm nocturnal lol

Over wifi and with PS4Pro speedtests, the Asus is better  not hugely but better on average by around 100Mbps in "most" cases. Latency I'm a bit on the fence about as I found that although joining games in AP took a bit longer (average 28ms Asus and 40ms with VF), the in-game latency was pretty close:

Router mode was average over 8 tests; Game join time 29.75 and In-game 19.75ms and AP Mode was average over 8 tests: Game join time 30.75ms and in-game 21.12ms. So unless I am misinterperting the numbers it seems the Router mode is better overall?

So next and final test is ONT to Asus direct (if so can you point me to the instructions as I still can't find them? Many thanks again :Winking_smiley:

You have your login details if I'm remembering correctly, so if you just connect the asus WAN to the ONT and do the WPS reset again, once it's up and running you can just login to the GUI (192.168.50.1) and follow the setup wizard.

Hi.. I have my voip details - the technical stuff - and the basic 3rd party router details eg username password VLANid etc

Ive got the Asus connected to the ONT and the pc connected to the Asus via wifi - wont connect through ethernet. After i go through the set up the GUI appears but shows internet status as “Your isp’s DHCP does not function properly”. I click on that and the GUI takes me back to the set up page- create a new network? The first page has lots of options and I just selected Automatic IP - should it be static?
