Help with ASUS RT-AX 86S not connecting to ultrahub

Hi...I'm freaking out here.

I am trying to link my Asus router in Access Mode to the Ultrahub. I also have a phone line so they both need to be connected.

I have tried the ethernet from ONT to the Asus - nothing happens and Have connected both together - ONT to Ultrahub LAN and Ultrahub WAN to ASUS LAN and again nothing. It's impossible to get to the ASUS GUI as It won't connect to the internet.

I actullay had this set up recently without any issues (had to do nothing) and have also reset the Asus to factory settings via reset button and did the set up as described in the manual (which i didn't even read before...Please help is you can - TIA

Yeah. On IPv4 the MTU is 1492 whereas IPV6 is 1452 (PPPoE figures) but the difference between a trip via Edinburgh on IPv4 is markedly slower than a direct trip to London on IPv6.

I did speak to the broadband team and apparently IPv6 is available to everyone, just the module on the router needs updating (which they can't do - another switch out if their reach). Couldn't give me my prefix though, nor the gateway so I can't get it running on my asus. They confirmed it does use 6rd though.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about now so I'll just wallow in my own self pity

Is there any way I can sort of "force" a gateway cchange...maybe back to Leeds e.g. ONT reset or something or any other suggestions? Really annoyed with VF as you guys have helped me so much and theyve just wsted it all !!!

Nothing is ever wasted here. It'll all stay here for other members to peruse.

If there was a way to 'force' a gateway change we'd both have done it by now.

It's just one of those things we have to deal with for such cheap broadband. Sure it's far from ideal for gamers, or anyone else frankly, but it is what it is.

I honestly can't suggest anything else, other than repeatedly disconnecting for 30 minutes at a time in the hope that a more favourable gateway could be assigned - I don't see anyone wanting to go through that.

That is a very good point as you learn a lot from previous threads and posts. Regards the disconnecting thing...i might try that just to see what gives...I'll keep you informed lol One more thing I forgot to ask generally, when you reset or switch off the ONT is that the same as switching off or disconnecting the router?

@P1x3l8 No. Don't turn off the ONT. You can "bounce" the router until VF drive you mad 😄

You should leave the ONT connected and just disconnect the router. If the ONT disconnects too often that could flag up a bad connection on the provider's diagnostic system.

And by disconnecting the router - is that switching off and on again or simply unplugging the ONT cable from the router?

@P1x3l8  My bad, bouncing it what we called restarting or rebooting a computer. Unplugging the router from the ONT will just look like a signal loss. On the router you can restart it from the browser interface or use the power button. To reset the router you press and hold the recessed button, BUT resetting can erase your settings.

Agreed, there's no need for resets.

Disconnecting the router from the ONT would be fine as the WAN will just drop out the same way as on a reboot. Openreach and Cityfibre only monitor to the ONT.
